The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
This past week was shorter than usual, but full of activity. For starters, we began the second grading period of the 2024-2025 school year, and it is off to a great start. We also celebrated our wonderful School Nutrition Team during National School Lunch Week by joining them in the serving lines. Their task is tall, and it was enlightening to experience it first-hand. School breakfasts and lunches are free for all students this year, and I strongly encourage everyone to experience for themselves the outstanding service and meals provided by our dedicated staff.
Wrapping up the short week, I had the pleasure of traveling to New Caney to see the Bulldogs Football Team continue its undefeated district streak. The game was also Kevin Berneathy's 50th career win as a head coach! On Saturday, I witnessed the Mighty Bulldog Marching Band earn Sweepstakes in the UIL Regional Marching Contest in Channelview. It was a great week indeed!
This week is National School Bus Safety Week, during which school districts across the country promote awareness of safe practices among students, parents, and drivers. We also like to celebrate our awesome Transportation Department this week for its constant commitment to excellence. If you get a chance, please thank your child's bus driver.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- Mega shout-out to our School Nutrition Department. Not only do they prepare delicious meals with loving hands, but they also do it with a smile.
- As we approach National School Bus Safety Week, I want to send another mega shout-out to our bus drivers, dispatchers, mechanics and everyone else who ensures that our students enjoy a safe and comfortable ride to and from school. Did you know that our school bus drivers transport about 3,000 students to and from school every day?
- Kudos to the La Porte Bulldogs Football Team, which is now 4-0 in district play after a 41-20 win over New Caney Porter this past Thursday night.
- Congratulations and kudos to Bulldogs Head Football Coach Kevin Berneathy on a 50-win career head coaching milestone. Here's to many more victories!
- Finally, a huge shout-out to the Mighty Bulldog Marching Band and Color Guard for earning Sweepstakes at the UIL Marching Contest on Oct. 19. Good luck at Area!
In closing, I am looking forward to a great week ahead, and I am grateful to everyone in the La Porte ISD Family for your continued support and partnership.
In your service,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.

Must-Knows For This Week
- Mental Health and Wellness Awareness Week is October 21-25. Each campus will be holding events in recognition of Mental Health and Wellness.
- La Porte ISD is excited to introduce the easy option of paying for all school fees/spirit items with our new RevTrak online credit card payment system. Simply create an account, find your campus, choose your fee to pay and check out. The best part is that you will not be charged a fee to use the site. Access RevTrak here. (If you are adding funds to your student’s meal account, you will continue to use the My School Bucks website.)
- The 2024-25 Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct are available online. Please familiarize your student with the contents. We are strictly enforcing the district dress code; you can review it beginning on page 54 of the Student Code of Conduct. Thank you for helping us ensure that our students dress appropriately.
- If your child rides the bus, we encourage you to download the SMART Tag Parent app. With the SMART Tag Parent App, families enjoy great features such as push notifications for load/unload status, proximity to home/school alerts and real-time location of your student's bus. Questions? Call our dedicated Transportation Department at 281-604-7177.
- Breakfast and Lunch are FREE for all La Porte ISD students this year! Supplemental food, such as fruits and vegetables, are also free for students who bring their lunch. (No registration is necessary.)
