Welcome Center new temporary location:
The transfer to our new location is now complete. The new address is 330 N. Ridgemoor Ave. This new space is holding all of our basic needs items such as personal hygiene products, household items, new basic essentials clothes, diapers, school supplies/backpacks, and a limited amount of canned and dried goods. This space will be used to host families in critical need of resources from now until the end of the current school year.
Something to celebrate:
On February 11th, we received a large donation of HP Pro Books 640 G8 (launched in 2020). These used (wiped clean) laptops were obtained through the Computers for Learning program, Executive Order 12999 signed by President Clinton in 1996. As we have a great community resource in the Welcome Center, we qualified to receive this donation. Two dozen HP Pro Books (over $29,000 worth) have been given out to our families. Thank you to Computers for Learning!
Thank you to all for making Mundelein wonderful! Happy March!

March is Music in Our Schools Month!
March is Music in our Schools Month! There is still time to sign up for one or both opportunities to experience Music at Washington. These experiences are separate from Music Night on April 3rd.
Mystery Musician (3/3-3/13)
A few parents have expressed interest in demonstrating instruments or musical talents during a Music Class. This led to the idea of a Mystery Musician! Inspired by Mystery Readers, parents can sign up to share a song, instrument, and what inspired their passion for music during their student’s Music Class. Mystery Musicians are invited to sign up to visit a music class between 3/3 and 3/13.
Music Class Observations (3/17-3/21)
This is similar to a performance in that there is an audience, but instead of rehearsing set pieces like you would for a program, students simply participate in music class. It is a way to perform for parents during a typical music class. This is a great opportunity to see your child’s musical and social skills in action! Parents are invited to sign up to visit their child’s Music class between 3/17-3/21, preventing any overlaps with the Mystery Musicians.
Haven't signed up yet but interested? Email Ms. Freeman at bfreeman@d75.org.
PTO Notes
- This year we have currently fundraised $634.60 by families simply scanning their receipts and purchasing items with the Box Tops logo. Each month there are monthly challenges for everyone to opt into to earn extra Box Tops English / Espanol. Fun Fact, even if you did not purchase Box Tops items you can still scan your receipt to be entered to win additional Box Tops. As a reminder families simply need to download the app and either search for District 75 PTO Mundelein or enter code PNKN0SEQ.

This is your chance to provide input concerning your child’s education. We value your opinions about the operation of Washington School. Our foyer has a chromebook set-up for parents to complete the survey, if you need access to a device.
The Illinois 5Essentials Surveys are available from Monday, Feb. 24 through Friday, March 28. Please use the following link to complete the survey: 5Essentials Survey. Click HERE for the message from our superintendent, Dr. Myers.
Welcome our 25-26 Principal! Dr. Lilli Melamed
The District 75 School Board on Feb. 25 approved the hiring of Dr. Lilli Melamed to serve as the next principal at Washington Early Learning Center.

The new principal grew up in the Vernon Hills/ Mundelein area and has children attending school in the Fremont School District. She is currently principal at Oak Terrace, a dual language school in Highwood, where she developed a comprehensive plan with teacher leaders to support school improvement. ART ROOM FUN!
First grade students studied the artist Jim Dine and created textured heart sculptures and heart mixed media pieces that included experimenting with new materials. Students used layering, mark making using tempera paint sticks, paper collage, colored pencils, and oil pastels to create highlights and shadows.
Second grade students just finished Winter monochromatic cityscapes. Students learned to create a gradient of tints with tempera paint for the background, collaged a cityscape they drew after studying architectural details of buildings, finally adding shadow with oil pastel and touches of snow and glitter. I'm excited to introduce to students contemporary artist Reggie Laurent and begin a organic/geometric shape collage project next.
