Maryland Association of Student Councils
MASC Membership. A reminder to complete the MASC membership application. It is required for delegates to participate in MASC sponsored events and have voting rights. Learn more how to complete the MASC Membership form.
MASC Conferences and Transportation. SMASC has worked with SMCPS to secure transportation funding for two buses per event. Before completing the MASC conference registration forms , it is critical to complete the transportation reservation forms for each event in order to secure seats on the bus. Reservation for buses is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once SMASC reaches its capacity, transportation will be closed.

MASC Fall Leadership Conference
Event Date: Saturday, November 23, 2024
Location: Havre de Grace Middle-High School (445 Lewis Ln, Havre De Grace, MD 21078)
On-site Check-in: 8:30-9:30 a.m.
Event: 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Registration Opens: Monday, October 28, 2024
Registration closes: Friday, November 15, 2024
Cost: $30 for students and advisors ($25 for approved, selected presenters)

Workshop Sessions: (1) Middle school students will attend the "Operation Speak Out, "Going Gold for SGA," and "Parli-Pro" workshops. They will participate in a mock general assembly and round-table discussions. (2) High school students will select up to five workshops and be assigned to three. MASC strives to place students in three of their five selections.

Student Member of the Board SY 2025-2026. MASC is accepting nominations for the 2025-2026 State Student Member on the Board of Education (SMOB) are open. This important public official position requires a nomination by the student’s school principal. The student must be regularly enrolled in a public high school, in good standing, and a junior or senior as of July 1, 2025 (meaning they are current sophomores or juniors). The school does not have to be a member of MASC. The school nomination is due by 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 18, 2024. Please share the attached packet with your high school principals so they and their student nominees can read the packet and take note of the various deadlines and components needed to complete the process. Each public high school may nominate one student. There are no exceptions to the 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 18th deadline as this is the appointment of a public official. MASC Committee Opportunities. The committees provide a fantastic opportunity for SMASC members to engage with issues they care about or wish to explore further. They also offer a chance to get involved at the state level. We encourage you to learn more about the available committees.

SMASC Elected-Officer and Appointed Position Packets for SY 2025-2026
Student Opportunities
National Civics Bee. The St. Mary's County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Civic Trust® of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, is hosting the National Civics Bee. This competition invites middle school students in grades 6, 7, and 8 from public, private, charter, and home schools to participate in a first-round civics essay competition. The deadline for essay submission is February 4, 2025.
The 2025 Essay Guide is available to help students prepare their essays. For more information about deadlines, the application process, rules, and prizes, please visit the National Civics Bee page on the St. Mary's County Chamber of Commerce website.
American Legion Auxiliary. The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring an essay contest for students in grades three through twelve. Learning more about this opportunity.
The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation. The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation (HOBY) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and nurturing the potential of young leaders around the world. The foundation aims to equip students with the skills, values, and experiences needed to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. Schools can nominate high school sophomores to attend three- to four-day seminars each spring and summer. Learn more about this opportunity.
