December 20, 2024
Dear Oak Grove Community,
As the year winds to a close, we want to take a moment to wish you all a joyful and restful winter break. This fall semester has been nothing short of amazing, filled with countless moments of learning, growth, and community connections. Your support and enthusiasm continue to make Oak Grove a truly special place.
In the spirit of celebration, we’re excited to introduce "Oak Grove Wrapped 2024: Our Year In Review!" inspired by the fun of Spotify Wrapped, this special feature highlights our top social media posts, cherished snapshots, and unforgettable memories from the past year. It’s a chance to reflect on all we’ve accomplished together and gear up for an even brighter 2025.
Thank you for being part of the Oak Grove story. Enjoy the magic of the holiday season, and we’ll see you in the new year for more moments to celebrate!
With Oak Grove Pride,
Dr. Lonny Lemon & Dr. Jim McKay
Interim Superintendents, Oak Grove School
January: New Beginnings
February: A Month of Heart
March: Growing Together
In March, Oak Grove celebrated student achievements and growth, from academic successes to artistic expression. The hard work of our students and staff was on full display. Third Graders learned about Ramadan from their classmates, Fatima and Lana, and the 8th-grade musical, Newsies Jr., had a fantastic run!
April: Celebrating Milestones
April marked achievements both big and small, including memorable learning experiences and student creativity shining across the district. We watched the solar eclipse, celebrated our military families during Purple Up Day, and shared in learning about cultures, traditions, and cuisines at our Multicultural Fair!
May: End-of-Year Celebrations
Spring brought end-of-year celebrations, field days, and recognition of student and staff achievements. The community came together to honor a successful school year, celebrating our graduating eighth graders and cheering on our incredible track stars who competed in state championships! Plus, our kindergarten classroom enjoyed an awesome field trip to the farm!
June: Celebrating Success
As summer began, we celebrated the close of a great year. Students, staff, and families reflected on all that was accomplished. Mrs. Matheson’s fourth grade math class turned into a glow-in-the-dark extravaganza for some extra fun learning during the final days of school.
July: Staying Connected
The summer break didn’t stop our Oak Grove community from staying connected through events and summer programs. We thanked Durham School Services whose work doesn’t stop over the summer months—here they are teaching preschoolers all about school bus safety!
August: Back to School!
We welcomed students back with excitement for a new school year, and true to tradition, Dr. Lemon and Dr. McKay welcomed back all Oak Grove teachers with an apple to start the year on a sweet note!
September: Momentum Builds
September was full of energy, with students diving into academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities. First graders Destiny and Moshika reminded us to Just Be Kind; OGS Band students participated in the LHS Marching Festival & Halftime show. For the second time since 2016, we were named a National Blue Ribbon School!
October: Fall Festivities
October brought vibrant fall traditions, student projects, and school pride on full display. Our Cross Country teams finished strong, and students Lilliana, Gianna, Charlee, and Olivia spent the evening with Coach Dugan and the LHS Varsity Dance team, getting to experience a high school football game under the lights!
November: Gratitude and Growth
In November, we reflected on gratitude, celebrating our veterans, active duty service members, and their families during our annual Veterans Day ceremony!
December: Closing the Year Strong
We are wrapping up 2024 with joy and celebration, from winter concerts to classroom festivities. It has been an extra-special month as we’ve also welcomed our new Superintendent, Dr. Bryan Zwemke! It’s been a wonderful way to end an incredible year.
