SUMMER TERM -20TH JUNE 2024
Message from the Executive Headteacher
What a start to the week! HISN children enjoyed their own Olympic opening ceremony with flags, torches and music and the school were amazed by the wonderful ball skills of Mr Colin Nell, he involved staff and pupils in his trickery and we were grateful he was able to attend. Thank you so much to the HISNA team for the organisation and funding this event.
This has been sports week for the entire school and the sun has shone! The children have really enjoyed their sports afternoons and the support they received from all the enthusiastic parents and carers really helped them. Thank you to all the staff who have made this possible and to Miss Pearson who has organised all the sports as the school PE leader.
The year 2 to year 3 transition has continued this week with visits from the staff and I hope you were able to say hello to the new year 3 teacher. The year 3 pupils have also visited as they are the buddies the children will have when they move to the year 3.
This is a very busy time of year so please do remember to put some dates into your diary:
- Wed 24 Reception Parents Welcome meet 6pm.
The HISNA summer fair will be on Saturday 29th June and we will be having a mufti day in exchange for a bottle on Friday 28th June.

HPP launched our new parent communication system last week - Arbor. You should have by now received your welcome email from Arbor, logged in, and downloaded the Arbor app.
HPP will start sending out communication from the school via Arbor from this week instead of using ParentHub. Please contact the school office if you are having difficulty setting up your Arbor account. We do not want parents & carers to miss any important communication.
Arbor - getting started information below.

What an exciting week we have had at school.
We started with a special sports week opening ceremony where we got to walk around and cheer whilst holding our Olympic torches in the air and on Thursday we took part in our own sports day event where we demonstrated our incredible sports skills for our families. We got to balance a bean bag on our head, we balanced a pretend egg on a spoon, travelled along a very tricky obstacle course and played a shopping game where we had to collect a beanbag from the shop.
We were all amazing and could tell that our families felt very proud of us as they watched and cheered us on! We have been enjoying learning about different sports people and have been talking about what sports we would like to learn too.
Time to talk Nursery
We all know how important talking at home is for exposing children to a wide range of vocabulary and ideas. This all helps them with their reading and to become future writers. Each week we will share an idea with you for 'talk homework' with your child.
We have loved 'sports week' in school where we have been learning about different sports and taking part in our own sports events at school. At home please talk about what sports your child would like to learn to do and maybe research some famous Olympians together.
🟥 Reception
This week is Sports Week and Reception were very excited to be part of our Hampton Infant School Opening Ceremony on Monday. We walked through the arch with our Olympic torches, waving them in the air and cheering for our friends. The children also enjoyed Sports Day, they loved practising their running, throwing and jumping and having their grown ups cheering for them!
Continuing on with Sports Week, our focus text was 'Sports Heroes.' We talked about lots of different athletes who take part in different sports and watched some videos of them taking part in their events. We talked about how this year is really exciting because we have the Euros and also the Olympics. The children enjoyed asking lots of questions and knew lots about different sports.

🟦 Year 1
The sunshine has arrived just in time for ‘Sports Week’! We had lots of fun demonstrating all the skills we have been learning in PE (e.g. throwing, rolling, balancing and running) across the various sport day events. We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and think we did brilliantly! A huge ‘thank you’ to all who came to watch and cheer everyone on – this really helped create an Olympic style atmosphere.
In English, we have been looking at retelling the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We have broken the story down into three chunks to help us produce our best possible writing. Using the story map we created last week, we wrote part one collaboratively and the following day we wrote our own version. We then repeated this process for parts two and three of the story.
This week in maths we have been using our knowledge of numbers and number patterns to find more and one less than a given number within 100. We then partitioned two-digit numbers into tens and ones, which we then used to help us compare various numbers and amounts.
In geography, we have been identifying the human and physical features of England’s capital city London. We looked carefully at a photograph of London and made a list of the human features we could see. We then repeated the process by looking for the physical features, before discussing and writing down why we thought there were more human features than physical.
In science this week, we have been learning about butterflies and their life-cycles. We looked at the process of metamorphosis in butterflies and how this means ‘a change in shape’. We are currently watching our own class caterpillars going through this process in class – we can’t wait to see their transformation!
Year 1 Aspirations Week
Below are some photographs of our wonderful children dressed up as what they aspire to be!
🟩 Year 2
What a wonderful sporting week we have had, thank you for coming to support us in Sports Day on Monday. We started the day with our wonderful opening ceremony where we were so impressed with the football skills we saw and some of us got to try too. We heard about being resilient and always trying our best which inspired us for our own Sports Afternoon. We loved taking part in the sack race, egg and spoon race, relay, water relay, lily pad jumping and bowling activities. We all tried our best and had a very fun afternoon.
In English we have finished reading our focus story 'Meerkat Mail' where Sunny the Meerkat went in search of the perfect place to live after feeling a bit fed up of being in the scorching hot desert surrounded by his large Meerkat Mob. We have been so excited to see where Sunny found was the perfect place to live and, as we predicted, he found his perfect place was back home with his family. We have been describing Sunny and realised he had many of the same qualities as us at HISN; he is adventurous, resilient and determined. We are getting ready to write a newspaper report about his adventure and his return home.
In Maths we have been learning about position and direction using key vocabulary like clock wise and anticlockwise as well as left and right. We thought about applying our knowledge of fractions to think about quarter, half and three quarter turns too.
Safeguarding
