The Locke Hill Roar
March 3, 2025
Greetings from Ms. De Hoyos & Mrs. Contreras
Last week was a busy one! Our lions took their class pictures and we had our 5th grade panoramic picture. We can't believe it, our 5th graders are almost finished here at Locke Hill. Most have been here for their entire elementary career and we have seen them grow up over the last couple of years. Our ALE students competed in our district Special Olympics. They worked hard, had fun, and made us super proud. Yesterday (Saturday) our 4th and 5th grade Robotics Team competed in our district competition. They have stayed after school working hard on their robots. Our lions worked as a team and gave it their best. Special thanks to Mrs. Alexander, our LH STEM teacher. She has sponsored Robotics in addition to many other Science enrichment clubs this school year. We appreciate all of the time and effort she has given to our lions. Our students thrive when give these opportunities to learn and grow. Thank you to Mrs. Schwab (5th grade) for co-sponsoring the club and to Mrs. Lopez (counselor) for supporting our Lions all day this past Saturday.
LH families, mark your calendars for our next PTA General Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 18th at 5:30 p.m. We will start a little earlier than usual since we will have our STEAM Night at 6:00 p.m. We can't wait to see our lions learn and have fun at the same time. We hope you can make it!
Please pay close attention to these reminders. Our campus opens daily at 7:00 a.m. for student drop off. Please do not drop off students before 7:00 a.m. because their isn't any staff on duty to watch our lions. Ms. Rosie will meet our students outside at 7:00 and our front doors will unlock at that time. Also, do not drop off students in the front parking lot. Parents/guardians are coming in and out of parking spots quickly. Please use the front drop off loop if you are only dropping off students. If you are walking your child in, please keep your eyes on them. If you don't drop off your child in the morning, please communicate with the adult(s) who do drop them off so we are all on the same page. We always appreciate your support in keeping our lions safe.
Wishing everyone a week full of learning, growth, fun, and friendship for all of Lions!!!

24-25 NISD School Calendar
Parent/Family Volunteers
Attendance
The Texas Attendance Compulsory Law states that students (even in PK and Kinder) must attend 90% of the school year in order to be considered for promotion to the next grade level. This means that students can not miss more than 17 days of school (excused and unexcused absences count towards the 17 absences).
Students who arrive after 9:00 a.m. are counted absent for the day. If you wake up late and your child is going to arrive after 9:00 a.m., we encourage you to still bring them so they do not fall behind in their academics.
If your child is absent from school, please send in a note with the following information:
-Student's first name and last name AND student ID number
-Student's grade level and teacher
-Date(s) of absence
-Reason for absence
-Parent Signature
If your child has to miss school for a doctor/dental appointment, have them attend part of the school day (before or after the appointment) and turn in a doctor/dental excuse note. They will be marked present and not absent for that day.
