Trustee Highlights

Student leaders from the Salinas City Virtual Academy led the Trustees and audience in the Pledge of Allegiance at the April 16 Board meeting. SCVA students also recited the SCVA promise in Korean and in American Sign Language. Students from Los Padres School who attend the District's After School Program also performed a short dance number they learned as part of after school enrichment.

University Park School, along with UP parents and UP Parent Coordinator Maribel Fregoso were acknowledged at the April 16 Board of Trustees meeting for having the largest number of parents who attended the Spring Parent Leadership Conference, held at University Park. Board President Art Galimba presented UP Vice Principal Ruby Baloca with inaugural Distinguished Family Engagement trophy, while Ms. Fregoso received a plaque for her work in engaging and bringing parents to the conference.

The Board of Trustees held a study session on April 11 at the District Office on the topic of the District's LCAP, or Local Control and Accountability Plan. The discussion, held with District administrators, provided an update on the LCAP, which is the District's roadmap to student achievement.

Trustee Amy Ish toured the Spring Adventure Camp at Sherwood School, and also paid a visit to the District's Migrant Education Office, which is located at Sherwood. Here she is speaking with Kammann teacher Chasette Harper, about an educational trip to Africa the teacher is planning for the summer break.

Board President Art Galimba continued his governance coursework at Monterey County Office of Education. The series of classes ends in June.

Trustee Belia Garcia attended the color run at Natividad School, and is continuing to earn her masters in governance certificate from the Monterey County Office of Education.

The next regular Board meeting takes place on May 21. All meeting agendas are posted to the District website the Friday before the meeting.
