PEEK AT THE WEEK

A big shout out goes to our transportation department and the Gates Elementary team that gave birth to the vision of the District's own Library Bus. The library bus visited preschool this week in honor of March is Reading Month. Preschoolers got to board the bus and pick out a book of their own to take home.

2019 - 2020 GSRP Enrollment Training

The first training sessions took place last Friday. We had Davison GSRP staff attend. If you were not able to attend last Friday, March 15th and you would like to work on enrollment, please use the link in the emails that were sent out or contact Christina McLeod. The next training sessions will be held on Friday, April 12th.

The District Jean Day to support the DEA has been moved back to Thursday, March 21st. Your $5 donation will be collected in the Cardinal's Nest and GSRP office Thursday morning. The donation goes to support the DEA.

Family Literacy Day will be held this Thursday, March 21st at GSRP. Families will be able to rotate from classroom to classroom and enjoy a theme based literacy activity with their child. Staff will be receiving a copy of the activity rotation schedule this week. Happy March is Reading Month!

The following are times for the early release day this Friday, March 22nd. I have heard back from all latchkey staff that plan on working the early release day schedule. Thank you for your flexibility and being there for our kids each day.

• This Friday, March 22, is now a ½ Student Day. It is crucial that we have at least 75 percent of our students in school in order for this day to count as one of our makeup days. This date was chosen after parents requested through an earlier survey that we try to avoid adding days to the end of the school year.

• There is no school at GSRP and Cardinal's Nest will dismiss at the preschool a.m. dismissal time.
  
  
• School will begin at normal times and will follow the half day schedule.
  o Davison High School/Davison Alternative: 7:25 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.
  o Davison Middle School/Hahn Intermediate: 7:34 a.m. – 10:28 a.m.
  o Central/Hill/Thomson Elementary: 8:35 – 11:35 a.m.
  o Gates/Siple Elementary 8:35 – 11:50 a.m.

Tuesday, March 19th- Meeting with Matt and Kevin 2:00 (Susan), Cardinal's Nest preschool and latchkey interviews Begin at 3:00 (Susan, Lori, Natalie) 3:00, 3:30 and 4:00

Wednesday, March 20th- Happy first day of Spring! Pot luck at GSRP This month's theme- Soup and Salad Bar, 1 p.m. mtg at Card Nest w/ Suburban janitorial for chairs at Card Nest (Susan and Lori) GSRP slot allocation form due to GISD (Susan).

Thursday, March 21st- District Jeans Day for GSRP staff, Family Literacy Day!

Friday, March 22nd- Mtg w/ Card Nest staff for future plans 12:30, Early release day and extended day latchkey at Cardinal's Nest, Gates, Hill, and Hahn.

During last week's county GSRP advisory meeting, the following dates were announced for GSRP staff to attend KRA informational meetings. The meetings will be held at the GISD on April 25th and May 3rd. More details will be following soon!

Cardinal's Nest, latchkey, and GSRP Staff that responded with an ok, got it, or thank you or another comment in response to last week's SMORE staff newsletter were put in a drawing. Last week Lori Peppin and I were able to conduct interviews to hire some new staff for the sub-caregiver latchkey positions. New hires will signing up at GECS and getting school fingerprints and child care licensing (LARA) fingerprints done and will hopefully be ready to work this week. We will be continuing interviews for latchkey and preschool positions this week.

We miss our friend and colleague Erin Gillis. Friday afternoon at the Cardinal's Nest was full of many emotions as we presented Erin Gillis' mother and father a check from Davison Schools for $9,180. The Cardinal's Nest staff, Davison Schools staff, and the Davison community gave many generous donations to make this gift for Erin's family and children possible. There were also hundreds of toiletry, personal items, and gift cards that were collected and given to the family in the 'fill a basket' collection for Erin's children Emily and Justin. Erin's parents were overwhelmed and very thankful to everyone that came together to make this happen. Erin's mom mentioned how important it is to them to be able to get a good education for Emily and Justin. She also shared how much Erin loved her students and colleagues at the Cardinal's Nest. It's comforting to know what wonderful hands Erin's children are in and they are so loved by their grandparents.
