Upcoming School Announcements, Reminders, and Events
- January 6th-February 6th-The 2025 Virginia School Survey of Climate and Working Conditions will be administered to middle school students between January 6, 2025 and February 6, 2025. Middle School students may use the following link: https://virginiatech.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3k2LxDtcgyvWWzQ

- January 28th Circle of Friends Kick Off Event: Seats are filling up fast, so you don’t want to miss out on RVA’s Circle of Friends Kickoff Event! Join us on **January 28, 2025**, from **11:00 AM - 2:30 PM** at the **Mary and Frances Youth Center** (120 S Linden St, Richmond, VA 23284)! Get ready for an exciting day packed with fun activities, team-building, and inspiring sessions focused on inclusivity, leadership, and unity. - Snow Days and Virtual Virginia: RVA Owl Scholars who are taking one or more courses through Virtual Virginia should be reminded that Virtual Virginia classes are never cancelled due to inclement weather (see policy-https://virtualvirginia.org/weather/). All RVA Owl scholars taking Virtual Virginia classes are reminded to continue logging in to Canvas to complete their assigned Virtual Virginia coursework as regularly scheduled.
- RVA Yearbook Sales Are Now Open: The online ordering site for this year's yearbook is officially open through March 31st! Don’t miss out on securing a copy for your student. **Order today!** Click here to order your yearbook https://strawbridge.fotomerchanthv.com/search/YB31107
- NEW Cell-Phone Free Policy (see flyers below): To comply with Virginia Executive Order 33, RPS is transitioning to a cell phone-free learning environment effective January 6, 2025. This policy minimizes distractions, promotes student engagement, and fosters well-being by reducing technology dependence. For scholars in Grades Kindergarten through Grade 5: Phones must be off and stored out of sight during school hours and events. For scholars in Grades 6-12: Phones are allowed on buses with headphones; however, during school hours, phones must be off and stored away out of sight. Cell phone use is also permitted after school and at events, provided it doesn’t disrupt activities. Below is an overview of what this policy means for students when they are visiting RPS schools, including our RVA Office and Learning Spaces at Henderson Middle School:
- Who: All RPS students, all ages
- When: From the first bell to dismissal,including lunch and transitions
- Where: Classrooms, hallways, cafeterias,restrooms, and outdoor areas while on campus
- Prohibited Activities: Phone calls, texting, or internet use as well as games, photos, & videos.
