Purdy Elementary News!
April, 2024
Spring Break March 22-March 29
School News!
We are looking forward to welcoming our students back on Monday, April 1st and hope you have a terrific break! When we return, quarter 4 will be upon us! Hard to believe we are in our last quarter of learning together.
In April, we will be focussing on the trait of RESPECT. We will meet as an all school family and learn about how we can all show respect at home, in our school and in our community.
Wisconsin Forward testing continues for our 3rd through 5th grade students. Students have been so focussed and working so hard! We are so very proud of them! Special thanks to Culvers, Frostie Freeze, and Jones Dairy Farm for providing some coupons for sweet treats to keep us motivated! We love our community!
CONSTRUCTION:
You may have noticed construction is happening at Purdy and the other elementary schools. Purdy is having several projects worked on over spring break (and then summer), thanks to the successful passing of the Capital Referendum for safety and upgrades. Please note, safety is top priority. All construction is planned for completion with student and staff safety in mind. When we return from Spring Break, several projects will be completed and many others in process. School ends on May 29th this year, and all planned projects will then be completed throughout the summer. We are thankful to our community for allowing the capital projects to be completed for the safety of all!
Finally, April 2nd is voting day! Please don't forget to vote and visit https://myvote.wi.gov/ and https://www.fortschools.org/vote if you have questions regarding our operational referendum question on the ballot.
Enjoy our April newsletter! See below for all the school events, learning within Purdy, community resources, and dates to remember!
See you soon!
Mrs. Kilar
Giannis "stopped by" the 3rd grade classroom to wish them good luck!
Butterfly Presentation-4th Grade
Students in 4th grade learned about the life cycle and migration of the Monarch Butterfly from paraprofessional, Ms. Kris Hofer! Ms. Hofer works tirelessly in our Purdy Monarch Garden to support Monarchs and the learning for our students! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and love of Monarchs with our students!
TEAM Time!
Students in multiage families participate in collaborative activities. The activities encourage leadership, collaboration, kindness, and teamwork! In addition, each month we gather as an all school family to highlight the students and their positive choices and leadership within Purdy. We have had over 190 leadership tickets given out this year! A random drawing of a leadership ticket has that student and class taking on the staff in a fun activity. Last month we played "life size Mario Cart"! Fun was had by all!
Working Together!
Poetry-4th Grade
4th graders have been working on the creation of original poetry. Seen here, students are collaborating on peer editing and revising during our poetry writing unit.
Science Exploration in Grade 2!
Our new science unit has us exploring different landforms and how water changes things over time.
We investigated how canyons are formed using land made out of cornmeal, salt and water. Using drip cups, students observed what happens to land over time. They just loved doing this! In addition, students were also given the option to share their amazing writing with the class. See the pictures below!
Fifth grade learning about Middle School from Purdy Alumni!
