2023-2024 School Calendar Approved
The District 622 School Board approved the 2023-2024 school calendar at the December 13, 2022, school board meeting. Please see some highlights of the 23-24 school calendar below.
Family Calendar
We now have Pre-K programs in all of our elementary schools and will no longer have a separate family calendar for early learning. All early learning dates have been included in our traditional school district calendar.
First days of school - Staggered start dates
We will begin the new school year with staggered start dates for specific grade levels. Like most of our neighboring school districts, this staggered start will allow transition grades and new students the opportunity to begin the school year with more focused support.
The first days of school for the 2023-2024 school year are below.
Tuesday, September 5: Grades 1-6 and Grade 9 only
Wednesday, September 6: Kindergarten and Grades 7-8 and 10-12
Monday, September 11: Early Learning
High School Testing Day - April (Exact date still TBD by the State of MN)
Each April, a day is scheduled for high school students to take the MCA (10th grade) and ACT (11th grade). The ACT has strict test environment guidelines, so students in grades 9 and 12 will have a remote learning day on the high school testing date in April. Once the state confirms the testing date, your child’s high school will communicate that date with you.
Winter Weather & Bus App reminder
The National Weather Service has predicted another interesting week of winter weather ahead. Additional snow and very cold temperatures are forecasted this week. Our goal is to have children in school learning this week, but we would like you to stay tuned in case of any possible cancelations.
When it comes to winter weather, there are three general reasons we may close schools. The first is due to unsafe roadways caused by snow and/or ice. For snow events, the timing of a storm is actually more important than the amount of snowfall. We work closely with our district transportation team to determine when roads have become unsafe for school buses.
The second reason we may close is due to extreme wind chills, which can cause frostbite to exposed skin in a few short minutes. According to the National Weather Service, a wind chill advisory becomes a warning when the wind chill dips below -35 degrees Fahrenheit. We will consider closing school when the sustained wind chill is forecasted to remain below -35 for several hours or more. Finally, if the actual air temperature (not the wind chill) falls below -25 Fahrenheit for a sustained period of time, we may have trouble starting our school buses. If our buses don’t start, we may have to close school.
For students who have recess, we will keep students indoors if the air temperature is at 0 degrees or colder, and/or if the wind chill is -10 degrees.
If snow or extreme temperatures prompt a school closure, we will notify families as soon as possible. In order to ensure you receive emergency notifications, please make sure the district has your current contact information.
Families are encouraged to send their children to school with appropriate clothing to protect them in the cold weather. Students should dress in layers and ensure that their faces, hands, and feet are well-protected from the wind. If your child rides the bus, please remember that our district uses the My Stop Bus App, which gives parents and guardians a better idea of where their child’s bus is along its route and when it will arrive at its destination. For more information about the My Stop App, please visit www.isd622.org/mystop.
Scene Around 622
The Metro East Varsity and JV Conference High Kick Dance Competition (L, C, R) was held at North High on December 6. Team from North and Tartan competed in the event.
Two groups of students (L,C,R) interested in STEM careers recently toured the construction area at Tartan. Both groups paused for photos under the beam that many of them signed back in September.
