Updates From The Principal
Hello NRMS Families,
Happy December. With the Thanksgiving holiday being so late in November we now only have two more weeks until the December holiday break. Among our priorities for this year is improving student attendance. Please avoid extending school vacation weeks. This year the holiday break is from Saturday December 21 until Wednesday January 1. We do have school on January 2 and 3. Thank you for arranging travel and holiday plans to avoid any impact on student attendance.
With the arrival of December, we are also experiencing colder temperatures. Please encourage students to dress appropriately for the weather. We often have coats and sweatshirts in our lost & found area at the school. Please ask your child to check lost & found prior to the holiday break so they reclaim their warm clothing items in time for winter.
Basketball season has begun with tryouts taking place this week. We roster two boys teams and two girls teams and have many more students trying out than we have roster spots for. There are also intramural sports opportunities at the school as well as recreation programs in the area towns. Our new Athletics website will have information for our student-athletes and their families.
Earlier today some of our teachers were introduced to the new platform for communication that will be phased in and eventually will replace ParentSquare. If you have not already done so, please download the Nauset App (see info below), as this will be your primary source for receiving Nauset updates.
Finally, the Orleans United Methodist Church, which is located nearby the school, will be providing a safe, after school place for students on Wednesday afternoons from 2:45-5:00pm beginning on January 15. Their volunteers will provide snacks for students and a warm, safe environment for completing homework, hanging out with friends, and/or providing homework assistance. If you have ideas for what is needed for this kind of after school option, please share your ideas with me and I will pass it along to the church. This is a non-religious after school space. In addition to the local libraries, it is great for our students to have options for safe places to go during the after school hours. For example see the flyer from the Truro library below.
Enjoy the weekend.
