Meet our Superintendent, Patrick Malley at the Town Hall Meeting. Your input is valuable as we shape our district's future.
Creative Arts at Wilkshire Early Childhood Center
At Wilkshire, we believe a strong foundation for learning is one that supports the whole child. In an effort to allow our students a variety of learning opportunities, Wilkshire students have the opportunity to visit several different creative arts classrooms each day.
Empower- In The World Room, Empower is a class based on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) standards. Students practice working cooperatively through team building activities such as greetings, sharing and games. Lessons are taught from our building’s SEL curriculum, Fly Five. Fly Five lessons are structured around the CARES competencies. Cooperation, Assertiveness, Responsibility, Empathy and Self-Control. Students also learn the value of using their voice and spreading kindness in and outside of school. This year, Wilkshire students will participate in Community Random Acts of Kindness such as our Food Drive, Toiletry Drive and kindness field trips.
PE- Physical education Improves children's muscular strength, flexibility, endurance, gross motor skill and cardiovascular endurance. Having physical activity often will provide benefits for mental and cognitive health. Physical Education gives students opportunities to practice skills, problem solving, and confidence building that promotes ongoing engagement in lifelong physical activity.
STEAM- Wilkshire STEAM class integrates science, technology, engineering, the arts, and
mathematics to guide student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The goal is to help
students take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving,
embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process.
Art-Wilkshire artists create masterpieces incorporating various elements of art. The goal of
the art program is to expose students to as many different art mediums as possible while
learning how to use the tools in the art studio. Choice is also a big part of the program and
all students are exposed to Sketchbook Town, an early finishers activity. Sketchbook Town
allows students to express their creativity in unique ways.
Music- Quality music education during early childhood supports emotional, cognitive, and physical development. In music class, children learn songs, chants, and games that are backed by musical as well as social-emotional research to best serve every child’s needs. Activities often include topics of expressing emotions, understanding why we may feel certain emotions at certain times, and moving our bodies safely. Overall, the music curriculum encourages and builds skills like confidence, emotional regulation, and teamwork.
