Big Apple-Here comes VHHS
Waterville, KS ---- Kloee Martin, a Senior student at Valley Heights High School, has been selected for the Honors Performance Series at Canegie Hall in New York City, New York this next February. Kloee will perform in the Series in their Honors Treble Choir. Participation in the Honors Ensembles is limited to the highest-rated young performers from across the world. Kloee auditioned for the Honors Performance Series and was recently accepted after a review by the Honors Selection Board. Acceptance to the elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements demonstrated in their application and audition recording. Kloee has been interested in music her whole life, and has always been a member of Valley Heights High School Choir, Marching Band, and Pep Band. Since she was nine years old, Kloee has taken singing lessons with her former Band and Music Director. She attended Kansas Lions Band for two years, Concert Band Clinic at Kansas State University for three years, and All-Star Marching Band at Kansas State University for two years. She has been a part of Children's and Adult Handbell Choirs for her church, sang in Church Choir, and Let Them Sing Children's Choir. She has always been a 3.95 GPA student and strives for high academics. In response to her selection, Kloee said, “I am absolutely over the moon to be an Honors Performance Series finalist! Music has always been my passion. Vocal and band have always been my favorite classes in school, and I plan to major in music in college. I have visited New York City when I was 16 and fell in love with it! To perform at Carnegie Hall would be an absolute dream come true! Thank you for this opportunity!" Kloee will join other performers for a special performance at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York City, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement. The finalists will come together in NYC, where they will have the opportunity to learn from world-renowned conductors, work with other performers, rehearse, and sightsee around the city. The Honors Performance will take place February 10. Tickets can be purchased beginning approximately 60 days prior to the performance through the Carnegie Hall box office. “Being selected to the Honors Performance Series is something each Finalist should be extremely proud of accomplishing,” said Marion Gomez, Music Director for the Honors Performance Series. “We processed nearly 10,000 nominations this year and have selected the most talented student performers from around the world. Working with these conductors and performing at these renowned music halls is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that these musicians will never forget.” The Honors Performance Series was created to showcase accomplished individual student performers on an international level by allowing them to study under master conductors and perform in world renowned venues. The Honors Performance Series is proudly presented by WorldStrides, the nation’s leading educational travel organization. Learn more by visiting www.honorsperformance.org and www.worldstrides.com.

StuCo Day of Service
All of VH Jr/Sr High Students participated in a Day of Service on Wednesday. Students and Staff went to both towns, some joined the students at the gradeschools and some stayed at the high school. They all worked together to accomplish many tasks. Mrs Stevenson and the entire junior high went to the BR park and worked to pick up trash and freshen up the area. At the high school, students and staff worked on landscaping outside the building. Some trimmed trees that had been damaged by the winds. Some worked to freshen up the flower beds for the winter. At the grade schools, high schoolers worked with our smaller children and prepared veteran's day cards, some played games, and some ate lunch with our younger students and then went and had some fun at recess with our "littles." We believe fun was had by all and everyone left where they were, feeling good about the day and helped by making it better than they found it,

Mustang Update
We have to open this week’s letter by stating, “the bridge is open”! This has been a long year where we all had to exercise patience and safety as we came and went to school and activities and when we just travelled that portion of the highway. The new bridge is a welcome addition and has made that area much safer with wider lanes and a sturdier structure.
What a week at Valley Heights! Our Lady Mustangs won the Region 3 Regional Tournament on Monday night with wins over Hillsboro, Hutch-Trinity and Ell-Saline is straight sets! We also found out that we will be hosting Volleyball Sub-State on Saturday with games starting at 2:00 pm. This event will be played on a single floor so more seating will be available. Teams that will be competing are Marion, Herington and Elbing-Berean Academy. Cost will be $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for students. No passes will be accepted unless you are on the Pass Gate. Valley Heights students must pay to attend. The football team will travel to Marion tonight to cap off the regular season. We will be hosting a first-round playoff game next week with the date and start time being determined on Monday. Our high school Cross Country runners will be in Regional action this Saturday at Southeast of Saline. The girl’s start time is slated for 11:10 am and the boys will follow at 11:45am. Let’s go Mustangs!!
Student Council hosted there fall Service Day this past Wednesday with our 7-12 students doing some landscaping projects at all three of our buildings. A new twist this year was some our students worked with our elementary students on projects and ate lunch with them as well. The students that went to Blue Rapids also cleaned up around the park and the area close to Dollar General. We would like to applaud our students and their sponsor, Mrs. Sammie Parker, and our 7-12 staff, for making Valley Heights a great place for our students.
A reminder that our fall play production is right around the corner! Dates for the show are scheduled for November 8th and 9th with a start time of 7:00 pm. Sunday’s matinee (11/10) will start at 2:00 pm. Make plans now to join us for this annual event and enjoy the many talents of our staff and students.
Another big event will be co-hosted this Sunday by our KAYS organization and the Blue Rapids Community Action Team with the Fall Fest on the Square in Blue Rapids! This event provides games, food, a costume contest and other activities for our youth! We would love to see you there. Things get started at 4:00 pm!
We hosted our first district wide Site Council meeting this past Tuesday night and we are still needing some additional representatives from the Jr./Sr. High School. Give me a call at the high school and visit with me about the purpose of a Site Council and your role if you would choose to join!
Have a great week!
