🎉 Stand Out Students
Nominated students of Summer 2023
Below are students nominated from VAR staff for their hard work and dedication over the Summer and early Fall 2023!
Robert Appleberry
It was an absolute pleasure working with Robert in summer school this year. They worked diligently and with a smile on every single day! Robert spent over 3,000 minutes reading texts and working in the Virtual English IV course this summer! I am so proud of Robert and the work they completed. Their hard work and dedication was evident as they celebrated their efforts at NECP's graduation ceremony.

Alex Roque Arizemendi
Alex was able to complete multiple OCR courses while taking a face-to-face course this summer. They came into the lab every day ready to work. Even when we thought we might need to add an additional class, Alex still arrived every day determined to succeed! Their perseverance and determination carried over to Bridge Week and they were able to finish all their coursework. Congratulations on your graduation Alex! I am so proud of you!
Nominated by: Corrine Mundorff
Angel Gonzalez-Cordova
Angel is one of the most determined students I have ever worked with. They arrived every single day of summer school ready to work and put forth 100% effort. Angel's perseverance and determination ensured they completed 8 VIC/OCR courses with us this summer and I couldn't be any prouder! Congratulations Angel on your amazing achievement!

Denim Hall
At All City, Denim worked really hard at the Virtual Academy of Rochester summer courses. They are conscientious and always have a smile on their face. Wonderful work on Art History!
Nominated by: Susan Rudy
Cordaeja Hightower & Ashley Jones
These two North East students come as a unit. They are the funniest, happiest students, ever. If you ever have the pleasure to meet them, your day will be that much better!
Cordeaeja and Ashley came together to class originally and I thought they were sisters -functional sisters. They were that close and when one wasn’t working, the other would let them know, and they would without excuse or grief get back and focused. Basically, they would say, “You are right. I’m gonna get to it now.” And they did. Hightower and Jones were a welcome end of the day duo. Hardworking, polite, intelligent, and funny. When Cordeaeja was successful, your hand had better be ready for her “High Five of Success!”
Nominated by: Gerard Noeth
Raniyah Jones
Raniyah Jones of Franklin Upper worked hard to complete Art History this summer. This student asked questions, advocated for themself, and NEVER gave up!
Nominated by: Susan Rudy
Kyle Markham
Kyle was a model student this past summer taking Health VIC. Kyle is an extremely bright student-athlete and was able to balance summer baseball travel, with working on their course. They demonstrated a very high level of knowledge and was very thorough in their work. Working with Kyle in the lab was great and they are a very well-mannered young person.
Nominated by: Ray Priel
Xykierah Morrison
Virtual Dual Credit student from North East, Xykierah, has shown fantastic artistic talent in the first few projects. They have great craftsmanship and provides detailed reflections for each of their works. I look forward to seeing what else Xykierah creates this year!

Nominated by: Sydney Friedrich
Daneisha Lay Rivera
Daneisha is an extremely thoughtful and friendly student. In addition to completing their own coursework, they quickly established themself as someone other students could turn to for support and help during summer school. Daneisha was often heard telling others to "get focused" or "I'm working on that class too! Let's take a look at that assignment together." Daneisha's positive attitude and determination ensured success and graduation in August! Congratulation Daneisha! I am so proud of you!
Nominated by: Corrine Mundorff
Dawnielle Longdue
Dawnielle has to be the most determined student I had this summer! They set a goal for themself and then they took off! Dawnielle even worked in the evening by Zoom with me when I was out of town for a professional training! They did an amazing job on their coursework and I am so proud of them! Congratulations on your graduation Dawnielle!
Nominated by: Corrine Mundorff
Grayce Peltz
School of the Art student Grayce worked consistently on the Virtual Dual Credit Global Environment course during the summer, emailed with questions, and has already shown amazing effort to try to do their best and fully understand the content.
Nominated by: Tara Spitzer
Jakeem Riggs
Jakeem of Monroe was a hard-working perfectionist. Their Virtual CFM work and work ethic were excellent and at the same time they were a pleasant hardworking student. Jakeem liked to challenge theirself and rarely asked a question just to quickly get something done. They sought to understand at a higher level. Jakeem's attitude for excellence showed in their work and is just a well-rounded student!
Nominated by: Gerard Noeth
Kyanaliz Santos
At All City, Kyanaliz is a very independent student. If they asked anything, they had exhausted the possibilities themself. For someone who described themself as, “not that good at chemistry” and someone “who lost interest” they crushed this course! It was their consistent and diligent work made them successful. They plodded methodically through Virtual Regents Chem working everyday. When I asked why they were in summer school, Kyanaliz said they tend to "wander" in the school year. As a younger graduating student, I rarely saw "wander," but instead I saw intelligent focus.
Nominated by: Gerard Noeth
Physsi Tyler
Physsi is so much fun to work with. They always have a positive attitude and truly works their brain to remember scientific concepts. They find this especially easy when the lesson involved food. Physsi is a hard and focused worker that deserves this recognition.
Nominated by: Leigh Trifeletti
Nazhier Wilson
Monroe student, Nazhier Wilson, worked diligently on Virtual CFM this summer. They were a student that would plug away with little prompting. Their methodical approach rarely saw them having to do things twice. Nazhier worked everyday, all day!

Advanced Placement Add and Drop Deadline
Saturday, Sep 30, 2023, 04:00 PM
Drop Process for AP & Dual Credit
The Virtual Academy of Rochester (VAR) offers our RCSD students an opportunity to take advanced courses while in high school. VAR offers a variety of AP classes, as well as dual credit classes with SUNY Potsdam, SUNY ESF, and RIT. As a reminder, AP and Dual Credit course fees are paid for by the district. The AP test fees or the college registration fees are paid in the fall for all students registered. As a result, we have established drop deadlines for AP and Dual Credit courses. For any student that may wish to drop a VAR AP/Dual class, the encouraged deadline is September 30th, but this must be done at the very latest by November 1st for full-year or first-semester courses. Drop deadlines for Dual Credit second-semester classes is March 1st.
Once we are past the drop deadlines, students should not withdraw from the course without counselor approval. Please reach out to the VAR counselor (Wendy Nicholas) and VAR registrar (Jen Coon) to discuss the options. Students dropping a dual credit course should be reminded that a failing grade will stay on their college transcript, as we are past the college deadline to withdraw from a course. It is strongly recommended that the student meets with their ACA Advocate to weigh their options.
Please note it is imperative that both students and parents understand the commitment to AP and Dual Credit courses prior to enrollment in the courses.
