Information for all CCSC Preschool and Elementary Families
Dear Elementary Parents/Guardians,
The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go. Dr. Seuss
Just a few minutes of shared reading each day can significantly impact the places your child will go. We are here to help you find the right books for your child. Our annual elementary Read-A-Thon will be here soon. If you want to help with our event, please contact our Elementary PTO as they prepare for an outstanding event.
Help us celebrate the success of students and staff and to improve, too. Please Click Here to Provide Feedback!

Preschool News
A Note from the Director:
Students have been very excited to come to school each day. Many of the classrooms are working on getting students to recognize their name from their peers. Students have been working on routines, following directions, colors, and shapes. I am very impressed with all of the happy students that are in our classrooms each day. We do have a few students that have behaviors in the afternoon. It is important for children ages 3, 4, and 5 to get plenty of sleep before going to school. If you and your family need suggestions to help with a bedtime routine, please let me know. I will be happy to help brainstorm suggestions for your student.
We also have a few opportunities to send home a backpack of food at the end of the week that is sponsored by the Nourish program. If you are interested, please let me know so I can send home a permission form.
We sent home information about parents registering on PowerSchool. Crawfordsville Community School Corporation needs ALL families to register through this platform (https://registration.powerschool.com/family/message?code=actionprivate) This helps the corporation with data that is reported to the state of Indiana and for the lunch program. Please let us know if you need us to resend the snap code or if you need assistance.
Playground
We will be using the Playground app to communicate with families. This application/website will be replacing the Class Dojo that we have used in past years. The program will allow us to take attendance, communicate with parents, allow digital payment, and much more.
Vouchers
Willson Preschool Academy does accept vouchers for families that are eligible. Please let us know if you need any assistance applying. You can sign up at
https://earlyedconnect.fssa.in.gov/onlineApp/home
Nurse’s Notes
Please make sure to send an extra set of clothes with your student. However, we have extra sets of clothes in the clinic. If your student wears these clothes, please return them back to school, so we can continue to provide for all of our students in need. The Mobile Dentist will be at Willson Preschool Academy on October 16, 2024. Please look for the registration forms in your student’s folder.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Willson Preschool Academy has worked with the Crawfordsville Police Department to improve the car rider arrival and dismissal procedures. On Monday, please follow these updated instructions:
Approach Wabash Ave from the South: Drive on Wallace Ave to Wabash Avenue. We recommend using College Street.
Stop at the Wabash Avenue Intersection: When you reach the intersection of Wallace Avenue and Wabash Avenue, come to a complete stop.
Turn onto Wabash Avenue: Only make a right turn onto Wabash Avenue if there is space available in the parking lot. This helps avoid blocking traffic on Wabash Avenue.
Enter the Parking Lot: Turn into the first Preschool entrance and proceed to the next available parking spot.
Exit the Parking Lot: Turn right as you exit the parking lot.
At Dismissal, Provide Student’s Name: At the 1:50 pick-up time, give your student's name to the staff member stationed at the corner of Wabash Avenue and Wallace Avenue. This staff member will be wearing a safety vest.
Drop-off starts at 7:50 AM, and car rider dismissal is at 1:50 PM. We encourage all parents to use the car rider line for both drop-off and pick-up. Students arriving by bus will enter through Door 1. Parents picking up their child on foot should go to the gate near the playground on Wallace Avenue. See the map on the opposite side for reference.
Breakfast and Lunch
Lunch at Willson Preschool is $2.75 per meal unless you have been approved for Free or Reduced meals. To take advantage of free/reduced textbooks you must still fill out the free lunch application at: https://crawfordsville.familyportal.cloud/. Parents can also use the family portal to deposit money on their student's lunch account.
Kroger Community Rewards
Willson Preschool has signed up to participate in the Kroger Community Rewards Program. Help our school earn cash for new playground balls and games. We would like families to visit http://www.kroger.com.
Once logged into your Kroger account, you can search for WILLSON PRESCHOOL either by name or XN492 and then click Enroll. New users will need to create an account which requires some basic information, a valid email address, and a rewards card. You must have a Kroger Rewards Card. If you would like to participate and need to enroll with a Kroger Rewards card, please visit the customer service desk at any Kroger store. REMEMBER to swipe your registered Kroger rewards card or use the phone number that is related to your registered Kroger rewards card when shopping for each purchase to count for Willson to receive rewards. Thank you for participating.
Box Top Rewards
Join me in earning cash for our school by using the Box Tops app. It’s an easy way to make a difference. All you have to do is buy Box Tops participating products (like Cheerios!) and scan your grocery receipt. Box Tops are worth $.10 each and they add up fast! Twice a year, our school receives a check to help pay for whatever we need - equipment, supplies, or experiences the kids love!
It's easy! Here's how it works:
Buy Box Tops products. With hundreds of participating products, there are lots of chances to earn!
Scan your receipt with the Box Tops app within 14 days of purchase and automatically earn for WILLSON School with every Box Tops product you buy.
If you shop online, you can earn with your digital or email receipt, too. See how to submit those receipts here.
Our goal is to earn $1,000.00 through Box Tops this year. We need your help to hit our goal!
Remember, you can earn a bonus for our school by referring your friends, family and other parents at WILLSON School to sign up for Box Tops. You'll both earn a bonus when they scan their first receipt with the Box Tops app.
Use this referral code MXDD4JEU when you sign up and you’ll get 25 Bonus Box Tops when you scan your first receipt now through 05/31/2024, while supplies last! Download the Box Tops for Education app here: https://btfe.smart.link/c2jjdifkw?referral_code=MXDD4JEU

Mindplay/Dyslexia Screener Info:
Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words. Dyslexia affects 20% of the population and can only be diagnosed by a doctor.
Indiana Code 20-25.5 requires all Indiana schools to administer universal screeners for learning characteristics related to dyslexia within the first 90 days of school.
All students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade will be given the screener. All parents of students will be notified of screener results. If a student is determined to be “at risk” for learning characteristics related to dyslexia, parents will be asked for permission to administer Level 1 diagnostic assessments.

Welcome Back to School
We have had a great start to the school year! There are so many exciting things happening in our elementary schools. I encourage you to take some time to ask your student about their school day. It is important for students to have engaging conversations at home. Here are some ideas to help get that conversation started:
-What was your favorite part about school today?
-Name one thing you learned at school today.
-Rate your day on a scale of 1-10.
-Tell me about something or someone that made you laugh.
-Did you have PE, Music, Art, Computer Lab or Library?
-What book are you reading right now?
-Tell me one thing you love about your teacher.
-What was for lunch today?
-Who did you sit by at lunch?
-What do you enjoy doing during recess?
-What is one way you showed Kindness today?

PTO
Crawfordsville Elementary Schools PTO has decided to hold a Read-A-Thon this year!
Read-A-Thons actually get your reader excited about reading and it gives friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more.
Our Read-A-Thon starts Monday September 9, 2024.
About one week before our Read-A-Thon starts we will send home instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record their progress.
We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/cyyPuq/1 and following the simple instructions.
We've chosen Read-A-Thon because it will not take much of your time, gives your child a reason to read and helps in the development of stronger reading skills.
We hope EVERYONE participates.
Thanks so much,
