The Viewpoint
Hey Oakview Families!
We’re gearing up for some spook-tacular fun on Thursday, October 31, when students are invited to come to school in their favorite costumes! To keep the day safe, enjoyable, and as distraction-free as possible, we have a few friendly guidelines to keep in mind:
Costume Guidelines:
- Keep It School-Friendly: Costumes should be free from any messages related to alcohol, drugs, or anything risqué – let’s keep it classy!
- Be Respectful: No costumes that could be offensive or insensitive to any racial, ethnic, or cultural group.
- No Weapons Allowed: Leave the swords, lasers, and battle axes at home, even if they’re plastic!
- Stick to the Dress Code: If it wouldn’t fly on a regular school day, it won’t fly on Halloween either!
- Masks and Vision: While masks are fun, ones that cover the entire face or mess with vision might need to come off – we want everyone safe and aware of their surroundings.
And remember, learning is still our top priority – any costume that pulls too much attention away from class will need a quick transformation to keep everyone focused.
Thanks for helping us make this a safe and awesome day! We’re excited to see the creativity of our Oakview students on full display. 🎃

OTHER PEOPLE MINDSET
This week, our school community will focus on the Other People Mindset of Knowing That My Words and Actions Affect Others, which means having an awareness that everything that we say and do can affect others — and our relationships with them.
Whether we speak, email, text, or post, our words and actions can have a positive or negative effect. The words and actions we choose can lift others up or bring them down, and they also impact us. When we all think carefully about our words and actions and show respect and care for those around us, we create a happier and healthier community.
To practice and encourage this Other People Mindset at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions.
DISTIGUISHED DRAGON AWARD
Thank you for taking the time to recognize one of Lake Orion Community Schools' staff members for their excellence.
The intent of the Distinguished Dragon program is to ensure that staff members who go above and beyond their regular duties are appreciated. The additional effort or support can range from helping an individual to helping a group or any effort that seems worthy of praise.
The staff member can be nominated by a student, parent, community member or even their own colleague. We ask for the submitter's name and contact information to follow up with specific questions if necessary.
Please complete the form entirely so the individual can be appropriately honored for their contributions.
