Farley School's Newsletter Update
THOUGHTS and THANK YOUS
Dear Farley Families,
We are thrilled to announce that our school has officially selected our new Vision and Mission statements! This is a monumental step for our community, and we couldn't have done it without your incredible support, feedback, and dedication throughout the process. Vision and Mission statements are more than just words—they are the heart and soul of our school. They define who we are, where we're headed, and what we stand for. Our Vision paints a picture of the future we want for our students, and our Mission outlines the path we’ll take to get there. These guiding principles will inspire everything we do, shaping our decisions and helping us stay focused on our goals.
Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and insight. Your input was invaluable in crafting statements that reflect our shared hopes and dreams for the school. Together, we’re building a brighter future for all our students!
Vision:
Farley Elementary School prepares all of its students with the academic and social-emotional skills they need to thrive as thoughtful, creative, and curious citizens who value diversity and lifelong learning.
Mission:
Farley Elementary School is a safe and inclusive community where everyone feels seen and valued. We inspire and empower all of our members to grow, explore, and ignite a love of learning. We value creativity, curiosity, global citizenship, and equity and believe our cultural and linguistic diversity makes us stronger.
Other thanks goes to those who volunteered to help with Fun Run rewards this week! This is no small feat! Sincerest gratitude to everyone who has donated and/or gotten others to donate. We have raised $20,000 as of today and have reached our registration goal of 70%! That means we will have a whole-school pajama day next Friday, September 27th. Lastly, a huge shout-out to caregiver Kimberly Rivas for loaning us two inflatable costumes! We are still in need of about 5 more costumes, so if you have any, please send me an email.
Students will be running in the Farley Fun Run next Wednesday, September 25th. Below is the schedule of when your child will run. If the weather permits, we will have our Fun Run outside in the baseball field. Caregivers can come watch and cheer us on. We ask that spectators line the outside of the fence to watch and do not approach their children when they are done running and heading into the building. If it rains, we will use the gym. We hope to see you there!

Tonight, my wife and I are headed to Brown University, my wife's alma mater, to see some of her former classmates in Trinity Reps' newest play. Then on Sunday, the play my wife is currently directing, an all-female cast of "The Crucible", opens in Worcester. Once her show concludes, she is going to be coming in to meet some Grade 4 students who have recently shared with me their passion for playwriting and performing! I am so excited for all of them to meet and share their love of the arts. Have a wonderful weekend!

MASCOT SPOTLIGHT
GRADE 4 STUDENTS TAKE OVER AS MASCOTS!
This week, we needed two mascots to help give out important information for the Fun Run Fundraiser. Thank you to Grade 4 students, Harrison and Owen, for doing an amazing job going to each classroom to distribute the lanyards that included information on how to register for the Fun Run!

CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT
MRS. SMITH'S CLASS OF ENGINEERS
Last week, Mrs. Smith's K class took advantage of "Fun Friday Math Time" and headed to our outdoor classroom to play with math manipulatives. Student "engineers" made a house, a tower, a Peloton, and so much more. The materials used are just a few that we were able to purchase with McGovern Subaru's generous donation last year!
NEW STAFF SPOTLIGHT
WELCOME MS. PIERCE!
This week we would like to introduce you to another new staff member who is also another HPS alum, Ashley Pierce. The oldest of seven children, Ms. Pierce grew up in Hudson and went to Farley as a little girl. She is a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University and was a daycare provider for 13 years before making the switch to be a day-to day sub after her daughter Brooklyn started K at Farley last year. She loved being part of our school so much that she applied to be a full time paraeducator this year. In addition to her human children, Ms. Pierce lives with five beloved cats. In her spare time, she runs her own jewelry business called "Designs by Pierce". Her specialty is making bracelets. Welcome Ms. Pierce!

CAR PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF SPOLTLIGHT
AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM OUR PICK-UP/DROP-OFF STAFF
For the safety and well-being of both students and staff, the Farley teachers at car pick-up and drop-off kindly ask that drivers not use cell phones while in line. They would like caregivers to refrain from taking pictures and videos of kids walking into school as well. Thank you in advance for help with this.
FARLEY FAMILY DIRECTORY SPOTLIGHT
WANT TO BE INCLUDED IN THE FAMILY DIRECTORY?
Every year, Farley's Home and School creates a Farley Family Directory. A directory comes in handy when trying to connect with other families outside of school. Special thanks to Sarah Tracy for putting the directory together. Please email her @ sarah.tracy97@gmail.com if you have any questions.

PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE FROM OUR NURSES:
Vision, Hearing and BMI (height and weight) screenings will begin the week of Sep 30, 2024 and are expected to conclude by the end of October. Please contact the nurses at: tmhill@hudson.k12.ma.us or cjwright@hudson.k12.ma.us if you DO NOT WANT your student screened by the nurses this year. If you have already returned a Health Screening opt-out form this year, your student will not be screened and you do not need to contact the nurses. Thank you
SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL SPOTLIGHT
LOOKING FOR ANOTHER WAY TO GET INVOLVED?
In compliance with the Education Reform Act of 1993, every school in Hudson and in Massachusetts, is required to have a School Improvement Council. Ideally, this council is made up of: two staff members, two caregivers of children attending the school, at least one person from the community (not a parent or teacher of a child attending the school), a school committee member and the school principal. We also try our best to ensure that the members of the council be representative of the multicultural population of Hudson. If you are a parent/caregiver or community member and wish to be part of the School Council please email me @ rscanlon@hudson.k12.ma.us by Friday, September 13th. The first meeting will be held on October 2nd @ 5:00 in the Farley Conference room. For the remainder of the year, the council will meet the first Wednesday of each month at 5:00 always in the Farley Conference room. I thank you in advance for your consideration!

WHAT IS A "HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION"?
For those who are new to Farley here is information again on what exactly a "Home and School Association?
The Home and School Association is an organization made up of students’ caregivers for the purpose of supporting the education of children at Farley Elementary by fostering relationships among the school, families, and teachers. The Home and School Association provides a vital and much-appreciated service to school leadership and the entire school community. The activities sponsored by the Home and School are designed to build community and enhance learning.
As a caregiver of a Farley student, you automatically become a member of Home and School and are welcome to attend our monthly meetings (either in person or virtually) as well as take an active role as a volunteer in our school.
Here are some of the amazing ways the Home and School Association (HASA for short) has supported our school in the past:
· The HASA has hosted numerous events and provided volunteers when needed. Here are are just a few examples of the events: the Book Fair, the Farley Fun Day, the Valentine's Dance, Farley Gives Back Bingo Night, the Ice Cream Social, and so many more.
· The HASA has provided funds for field trips and sponsored cultural assemblies
· The HASA puts on the Farley Fun Run-our only fundraiser of the year which has provided funds to upgrade our library, create an outdoor classroom in our courtyard, and most recently enhance our playground.
Pleas join Farley's Home and School Association's monthly meetings. More information to come on the day meetings will be held. Free childcare is always provided for these meetings.
Just in case you don't have Farley's Home and School's Facebook link--here it is:

PAW PRINT STICKERS EXPLAINED!
Students get Paw Print Stickers for going above and beyond. When a staff member "catches" them doing something spectacular, they get two stickers-one to wear and one to put on their homeroom Fox poster. When their classroom Fox poster fills up with stickers, they get to have a classroom celebration. If you see a paw print on your child's clothing or backpack, please ask them what good deed they did to receive the sticker!
A REQUEST FROM A RESIDENT
A few of the residents who live on Lincoln Street asked me to remind all car pick-up drivers, to please refrain from parking in front of the driveways on Packard or Lincoln Streets while waiting for pickup. Blocking driveways makes it difficult for residents to access their homes. Within the next few weeks, car pick-up will be so fast that this shouldn't be problem. But for now, please be mindful of where your care is idling. The residents thank you in advance for your cooperation.
STILL HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BUS?
As shared in my recent emails to families, Farley administration does not have control over bus transportation. We have heard from many of you and have tried to field any questions or concerns you have. Please continue to email Denise Cobb, Head of Transportation @ dccobb@hudon.k12.ma.us with your additional questions or concerns.
Bus information is published on the district website under the “Transportation” section: https://www.hudson.k12.ma.us/parents/transportation. Bus information will also be available to view in the ASPEN database.
