Message from Mr. Krall
Dear WES Families,
Hopefully you find yourself slightly warmer on this Monday afternoon than one week prior! This time last week we were shoveling off sidewalks, building snowmen, and sledding down the high school hills. The more moderate temperatures allowed us to get outside for recess today, and we are ALL thankful for that!
Hard to believe that by the end of this week we will be halfway through January already, and I’m sure the weather will continue to fluctuate. For reference, we follow the “real feel” temp of 20 degrees as the cutoff for holding outdoor recess. We all value and want to get our students outside, and we regularly check to make sure that we are good to do so. Thank you for your understanding and know that it is our intention to have our students as active as possible, breathing fresh air, but also in a way that we can ensure their safety and proper supervision during the cold months.
As a reminder, later this week on Thursday, we are excited to take part in our school wide celebrations and activities centered around service and the impact that Dr. Martin Luther King had on our world. We will continue to collect school supplies for our service project drive activity up until Thursday, and we appreciate your support! A big thank you to the WES PTO and the individual families who made the additional commitment of sponsoring a bookbag to allow us a place to pack the student supply kits in! We are very appreciative of your support and commitment!
A reminder that there is no school for students this Friday, January 17th (teacher in service) and Monday, January 20th (MLK holiday).
Have a great week!
Mr. Stephen Krall

WSSD MLK Day of Service - School Supply Drive
Chain of Love Fundraising Service Project
In honor of Dr. King’s legacy of love and service the students at WES are participating in a fundraising service project lead by our 2nd Grade Teachers. During school, children will create a paper “Chain of Love” where each student will add four links that indicate their specific dream for a better world. All students' links will be connected and displayed in our hallways. Donations collected will be sent to the NCCF Disaster Relief to help those affected by the floods. You are welcome to sponsor your child’s links by sending a donation in any amount. Please complete this form and return your contribution by Tuesday, January 14th.

Volunteering at WES
We are urging parents/guardians to complete the process for clearances if you have not already done so. Clearances are mandatory, are good for 5 years, and are kept at the district level. Volunteer clearances are required for anyone volunteering to work with our students or be present in our school; whether that is in school, on a field trip, or at an athletic event/practice, etc. Essentially, everyone who is volunteering with our students or in a school is required to obtain volunteer clearances.
You will not be permitted to volunteer without valid clearances on file with the district.
