Drag Show 2013
National Coming Out Week
Greetings!
We are excited about you expression your interest for being a part of the 2013 Drag Show at Temple University!
To give you some background information, National Coming Out Week (NCOW) was formed in 2009 to bring more knowledge about LGBTQIA issues and visibility to the campus. This will be the second year for the NCOW committee & Temple University to host such an event of advocacy programming. The NCOW Drag Show is a non-profit event being implemented for educational purposes, to increase visibility and support for those in the LGBTQI community and its allies.
This is an excellent opportunity for performers to gain additional experience on a large stage and showcase themselves in front of hundreds of people. We will have a photographer and possible video recording occurring during the show.
In the past, NCOW events have received a wide range of media and Campus Philly coverage. We encourage performers to be themselves in a tasteful manner, but showcase this area of the community. Each participant will receive the Unite for Equality official 2013 NCOW shirt as well as other tokens of appreciation.
Is there an audition for the NCOW Drag Show?
We held auditions for those performing for the first time as a drag queen or drag king. Everyone attached to this communication has had previous or professional experience with performing, and will therefore not need to audition.
We will however, meet with all new NCOW Drag Show performers as a group or in a one on one setting to answer any existing questions. This meeting will take place with Rodney, Diedre, and Shawn.
About the Venue
The 2013 NCOW Drag Show will be hosted at the Temple Performing Arts Center. This has been provided courtesy of Temple Student Government. The space will have a "T" Stage runway set-up and dressing rooms will be available backstage.
There is no cap to the amount of guests you may bring to this event; however, there is a limit of 2 guests per performer to be seated in the VIP section closest to the stage. This is due to limited seating in this section.
A DJ will be present to continuously play your music as well as tunes whenever individuals are entering the space.
Who will be present at the NCOW Drag Show?
The NCOW Drag show is being advertised to the entire Temple community. There will be students, faculty, and staff members presents. There will also be other institutional partner schools present to experience the event. Again, you are encouraged to invite your friends and family as there will be seating available for up to 600 people throughout the Temple Performing Arts Center.
Day of the Show!
The show will be hosted on Monday, October 7, 2013 from 7:00pm-9:00pm. All performers, DJ, MCs, committee members should report to TPAC no later than 5:00pm to have a run through and practice onstage.
