Celebrate Reading & Literacy!
Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that takes place each spring. It is organized by the National Education Association (NEA) and is typically held on March 2nd, which is also Dr. Seuss's birthday. The goal of Read Across America is to encourage children and adults to celebrate reading and literacy by participating in various reading-related activities.
Schools, libraries, and communities across the country often participate in Read Across America by organizing events such as read-alouds, book fairs, author visits, reading challenges, and themed dress-up days. The program aims to promote the importance of reading and foster a love for books among people of all ages. See below in our "Vibrant Happenings" section how Neshaminy elementary schools celebrate a love of reading!

Early Reading Skills Series On-Demand
The Neshaminy Title I Parent & Family Engagement Survey revealed that parents and guardians showed broad interest in various topics but literacy emerged as the top choice. Below you will find links to the recent Early Reading Skills Series Webinars. To promote reading engagement at home, each webinar is accompanied by a Take-Home Workbook.
These workshops, supported by organizations like Drexel University, Reading Promise and the Aim Institute for Research and Learning, aim to ensure children become proficient readers by 4th grade. Read by 4th coordinates these efforts, and the Neshaminy School District warmly welcomed these partners for the Early Reading Series Workshops.

Phanatic About Reading Challenge
Mrs. McHugh's Schweitzer ES kindergarten class welcomed the Phillie Phanatic on January 11th as part of the 'Phanatic About Reading' Challenge by Xfinity and the Phillies. Students had been submitting reading logs, videos, and pictures since September, showcasing their reading efforts at home. During the visit, Mrs. McHugh acted out the Phanatic's book, "Hero," while Principal Dr. Amy Orlando read it aloud. Students presented handmade cards and mementos to the Phanatic, creating lasting memories for all. The event highlights the importance of reading and encourages families to support their children's reading habits by reading together and exploring new interests and authors. Congratulations to Mrs. McHugh and her class for a job well done!
Welcome to the Team!
