Curtis Chronicles
October 10, 2022
Principal's Corner; Ms. Sonya Pitcock
Cougar families,
We have finished the first quarter of the year and are excited to report the great things going on at Curtis MS! We have lots of kids involved in clubs and activities, our sports teams are doing well, our fine arts have had choir and band concerts that were amazing and theater students are working on the upcoming musical – just to name a few!
We would like to share that we have started a teacher of the month and staff member of the month process to celebrate our great staff members! So far this year, we have honored teachers of the month: Mona Abdelkarim, Ryan Silch and Eleni Dimoulakis. Congratulations to these great teachers! Our staff members of the year have been Sommer Molina and Michael Anderson and we are so thankful for each of them! Feel free to send those teachers and staff a congratulations note if you’d like!
Fall Break is October 17-21 for students. Our parent conference day is scheduled for October 21. In middle school, we do not have the ability to conference with every parent. Our counselors will reach out to set up parent conferences for students who have some specific concerns and may need additional supports from us. If you would like to talk to a specific teacher about the progress of your child, feel free to reach out to that teacher to set up a time to meet or conference via phone. We hope everyone enjoys this nice fall break!
Right after Fall Break, we will have our Red Ribbon Week for drug and alcohol awareness. Thanks for PTA for bringing in the Mavs program to talk with our students about making good choices. PALs have created themes for each day:
- Monday - Don’t Sweat the Phone (Focus on healthy technology use) – Sweats Theme
- Tuesday - Say Aloha to a goodnight sleep - (Physical Health) Hawaiian shirts
- Wednesday - Strong Friends - Twin Day
- Thursday – Tune out Drugs – (Mental Health) - Music Genre or concert shirt
- Friday - Show your True Colors – (Best Version of You) - Jersey or all one color
New opportunity: We have a great opportunity for Dads to become involved here at Curtis Middle school. We are asking dads to help volunteer and assist our students. Here are a few ways dads can help us out:
- Assist with the assigned staff member at the cross walk in the morning.
- Monitor the entrance at the café with the administrator on duty.
- Monitor the café or gym with the administrator on duty.
- Monitor the main entrance, bus riders, with Curtis staff on duty.
- Lunch Monitor. Assist with lunch procedure.
- Other events such as dances, end of year 8th grade trip, check doors, Etc.
Students would love to see dads here on campus, please come to our first Dad’s Club meeting where we will go over the details for each duty, how to sign up and answer any questions you may have. Our first meeting will be on October 12 at 5:30 PM in the Curtis MS Cafeteria. All dads must have the volunteer application complete in order to come help. Here is the link to get that completed.
