Spencer Alumni Visit
BHS Class of 2024
We had a visit today from some members of the Brighton High School Class of 2024 who are former Spencer Elementary students. They got the chance to walk the halls of Spencer once again and say HI to some former teachers. Best wishes to these young men and women as they graduate from BHS and continue on to the next chapter of their lives.
Message from Mrs. Boyd
Hello Roadrunner Families!
It was a wonderful and wild short week here at Spencer. We had the ice cream social, a bat house presentation from Girl Scouts, students having teacher experiences from the auction, and our very own former Roadrunners from BHS walked through with their caps and gowns. It is also a very emotional time where we know we are going to be without our Roadrunners for the summer and have been reflecting on such a wonderful year. We still have many exciting adventures in the next week and a half!!
Reminder for Field Day....we are always looking for parent volunteers to help run the stations. If you are joining us that day, you will need to check in to run a station. We will not be having a spectator section, you will be put to work. :) Reminder, you need to have a background check on file to volunteer and need to check in when you arrive.
Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Boyd

Yearbooks Have Arrived!
Yearbooks have arrived! I have a few extra copies available for purchase in the office if you didn't have the opportunity to purchase one online. They are $20 (cash only, please) and you can email me at berryl@brightonk12.com if you would like to reserve a copy for your student. I will be giving them to the teachers to pass out on Field Day.
**Fun Fact** The yearbook cover was chosen and voted on by our 4th graders!
Kindergarten Families
Kids Read Now Summer Program
This year Brighton Area Schools is sponsoring the Kids Read Now summer program for all kindergarten students. Soon, your student will bring home 3 books and a Parent Guide. The Parent Guide provides details about the program. Once you receive and read the first books, you can report the Book Codes to receive more books over the summer. Families can receive a total of 8 books over the summer. This is a great opportunity to engage with thinking and learning over the summer! Happy Reading!!
Lost & Found
Please check the Lost & Found for any items your student may have lost while here at Spencer. All items unclaimed will be donated when we break for summer. The Lost & found cabinet can be found near Door 26.
Change of Transportation Calls
We are seeing an increase in phone calls at the end of the day with a change in your student's dismissal plan. Every call we have to make into your child's classroom is an interruption for the entire class. This disrupts their learning time and their teacher’s valuable instruction time. Please send a note in with your student in the morning if there is a change in their after school transportation or contact the office by 2:45 PM (preferably before lunch so we can pass a note to your child's teacher on their way past the office). This will eliminate the calls into the classroom and the disruption of class instruction. Please do not contact your child's teacher directly for any changes in their end of the day dismissal plans. Messages sent via email, Remind, See Saw, etc. are often not able to be checked throughout the day. In addition, this information would not be accessible to a guest teacher. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Just In Case Clothes
REMINDER!
THANK YOU to those of you who are packing a change of "just in case clothes" in your child's backpack every day. Now that the weather is changing, please make sure that the clothes you pack are weather appropriate. This is for ALL students, grades JK-4th, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or lose a tooth, or spill food on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have a bathroom accident. We have already had to contact quite a few families to come up with a change of clothing. If your student keeps a change of clothes in their backpack, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we will need you to bring up a change of clothing. Thank you for your cooperation.

We are SO CLOSE to the end of the year!!! We have just a couple more things of note for the Scoop this year.
Field Day: Field Day is next Friday, June 7th. The format will be changing, but we still need plenty of volunteers! As usual, we are looking for one volunteer for each classroom, a borrowed wagon for each classroom to use for water bottles, and volunteers for each game. In addition, we would like to borrow 8-12 popup tents to provide shade for students as they play for the day. If you would like to volunteer for this fun day, make sure your background checks are completed NOW and sign up here!
Fourth Grade Farewell: Each year, outgoing 4th graders tend to give a gift back to the school. This year, a new, larger, Little Free Pantry was designed and created in conjunction with local business littlefish, Howell High School's Construction I class, and LESA's Communications and Media classes. During Social Studies, our 4th Graders will be learning about the pantry, why people might need them, and how they are used. The new Free Pantry has been installed today! We are working on a plan to make sure it is fully stocked before the end of the school year, and after that it will be a "take what you need, leave what you can" policy. This is a wonderful resource for those in need to take advantage of. Please see the information below from two of our 4th Grade students!
The New Food Pantry
From The 2023-2024 4th Grade Students!
Do you ever need a little help with food once in a while? Well, we have the perfect solution! The new Food Pantry at Spencer! You may take as many items as you want from the pantry. There will even be a labeled bin for allergy friendly foods! Plus, home supplies are now included. The pantry will be located in a new, more private space with no windows nearby. You may visit as many times as you need! The pantry is located outside, behind the teacher picnic area. And all are welcome to use it! Teachers and students will restock the pantry when it is empty. This is an amazing gift from our 4th grade class and PTO. Thanks! So remember, if you are ever in need of something from the pantry or would like to donate to a great cause, go check it out today!

Remember Your Family Pass
Please remember to bring your Family Pass with you EVERY day you come to pick up your student! . We frequently have substitute teachers that will not recognize you and will send you to the office to get a family pass card before releasing your child to you. This is for safety and security reasons and we appreciate your cooperation.

BAS Pack of Dogs
The BAS Pack of Dogs are excited to announce our inaugural Pack Parade! We will be hosting a 1 mile walk that will start at the Mill Pond and end at BHS with food trucks, yard games, and raffle baskets. Participants in the walk can use the link and select “become a fundraiser” to sign up and create a fundraising team/page that can be shared on your social media. This way you can tell your family and friends about the amazing pups you’re pledging to walk for, and they can also help contribute to your page. There will be prizes for the top fundraising teams from each Brighton School! We hope to see everyone there!
Any questions or Pack Parade sponsorship inquiries please reach out to Kaitlyn Lipinski or Rachaelle Baxter
