Weekly Update
December 9th - December 13th

⛄ i-Ready Reading Assessment begins December 9th - December 13th ⛄
What's Happening This Week:
Welcome to another exciting week in Ms. Kuhn's First Grade! ❄️ As we embrace the winter season, our classroom is buzzing with learning and fun! Let's dive into what we accomplished last week and what we have in store for the upcoming week!
This week:
In Phonics, we will identify, blend, and spell soft "c" and soft "g" words. Get ready to learn some new high-frequency words! Here are our spelling words for the week:
- gem
- cent
- race
- page
- dance
- strange
- face
- stage
- far
- try
- give
- too
In Reading, we will wrap up Unit 5 by diving into the genre of realistic fiction. This means we will explore stories where characters and events may not be real, but they feel like they could be! We will practice summarizing by using our own words to highlight the most important details of the story. Students will also learn to use illustrations and details to describe characters and settings. Additionally, we will explore affixes, focusing on suffixes like -s and -ing, to see how they change the meanings of words.
In Math, we will complete Unit 4 and jump into Unit 5! Topic 5 will focus on understanding that the equal sign means both sides of an equation represent the same value. Students will determine if addition and subtraction equations are true or false and find missing numbers in equations. We will also learn about the Associative Property of Addition, which shows that three numbers can be added in different ways, and the sum will always be the same! For more information on how to support your child in math, please click here for the Unit 5 Family Engagement link.
