Copy of Email Sent Home Regarding PSAT Testing (NEW)
This is a copy of an email that has been sent a couple of times in the past few weeks....
ACHS will be providing the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test 9 (PSAT) and the PSAT National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) at no cost on October 9, 2024, during the school day to all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
WHO: All members of the freshman, sophomore and junior classes
WHAT: The Digital PSAT 9 and PSAT/NMSQT are slightly shorter versions of the SAT, an exam students can take for college applications. This test provides data that is used to determine placement for students in their courses for the following school year.
WHEN: Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 8:00 am. Students will be dismissed after testing concludes, there will not be classes on this day.
WHERE: At ACHS - room assignments will be emailed to students on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, and will be posted in the Commons.
WHY: 1) We will use this data as a factor to determine course placement for the 2025-26 school year.
2) It's good to get an idea of your score potential for SAT. Students become familiar with SAT's
format through this test and they tend to perform better on the actual SAT if they choose to take it.
3) The PSAT is scored similarly to the SAT, so the results are roughly predictive of students' SAT performance.
4) Juniors who score in the top 3% of testers enter the National Merit Scholarship competition and may qualify further to compete for a number of college scholarships.
HOW: You don't have to do anything - all ACHS freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are registered for the exam.
SLEEP AND EAT! A good night's sleep for at least three nights preceding the exam and a healthy breakfast on October 9th are important for sustained mental focus and function.
REVIEW THE PSAT/NMSQT STUDENT GUIDE. The guide includes important information about the test.
BRING YOUR FULLY CHARGED CHROMEBOOK & CHARGING CABLE! (a limited number of spaces near outlets)
BRING AN APPROVED CALCULATOR AND A WRITING UTENSIL! Calculators are permitted on the exam. We recommend that your student bring a fully charged calculator and fresh batteries. Please also bring a writing utensil, even though the test is digital, a student can still use the provided scratch paper.
DRESS IN LAYERS SO YOU ARE COMFORTABLE.
BE ON TIME! The test will begin promptly at 8:00 am. Posters will be in the commons on the day of the test.
LEAVE YOUR CELL PHONES & SMART WATCHES OUTSIDE THE TESTING ROOM (home, car, locker, …)
DO NOT BRING ANY FOOD INTO THE TESTING LOCATION, water is permitted.
QUESTIONS: Contact Dr. Jaclyn Orlov, Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction
Parent Teacher Conferences (3rd Week)
We are holding Parent-Teacher Conferences on Friday, October 11 from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. These conferences offer a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's progress and set goals for the remainder of the school year. Students who received a D or F in any subject at Checkpoint #1 are eligible to participate in a parent-teacher conference for that specific subject. The first round of invitations to Parent Teacher Conferences has been sent out this afternoon.
If your student is not struggling but you would still like to discuss your student's progress, you are always welcome to reach out to staff via email or phone.

Sequoit Pride News (2nd Week)
A great way to help provide phenomenal experiences for the students of ACHS is to join our booster club, Sequoit Pride. In the past 2 years, Sequoit Pride has partially or fully funded over $100,000 in numerous experiences for our Sequoits. Students have traveled to journalism and film conferences in Boston and New York. Our Storytellers Series through our English Department is partially funded by Sequoit Pride. Our Back To School Bash was also funded by Sequoit Pride. Even our new mascot will be purchased by Sequoit Pride. There are so many experiences funded by Sequoit Pride to list and we would certainly be lost without their support.
Memberships can also be purchased online at Sequoit Pride Parent Booster Club. A $150 Superfan membership makes a big impact in how you can continue to help as well as items that are purchased from our school and stadium stores.
Thanks so much for your help and support!
