Bruin Bulletin - Oct. 04, 2024
October 4th, 2024

Autumn Months 🍂
O God of Creation, you have blessed us with the changing of the seasons.
As we welcome the autumn months,
may the earlier setting of the sun
remind us to take time to rest.
May the brilliant colors of the leaves
remind us of the wonder of your creation.
May the steam of our breath in the cool air
remind us that it is you who give us the breath of life.
May the harvest from the fields remind us of the abundance we have been given and bounty we are to share with others.
May the dying of summer's spirit remind us of your great promise that death is temporary and life is eternal.
We praise you for your goodness forever and ever.

HALLOTHANKMAS 🎃 🦃 🎅
Hello Parents,
October is officially upon us! While I am thrilled because it is my birthday month, it is also the start of holiday seasons and the times ahead of us are busy and action packed. We want to do our best to keep you as informed as possible through it all, so thank you for checking out the bulletin.
Thank you to everyone who participated in and attended our PTO Community Meeting. It was full of collaboration and conversation as we sought to define a vision for future capital improvements and to start building a culture of community service. There will be a poll below for you all to share your opinion on some of the items discussed last evening. Your participation is much appreciated!
We hope to see all of our Grandparents and Special Persons on October 18th from 9-12pm. Our committee is working incredibly hard to make it a beautiful and memorable event for all in attendance. Progress reports will be going home on the 16th of October. We encourage you to communicate any concerns with us regarding grades and academics so that we can work together to help students succeed.
I want to wish everyone a wonderful weekend! Happy HalloThankMas!
Mr. Ryan Nearhoff

Additionally, during our Wednesday rosary we would like to offer up intentions for anyone whose life has been lost to Breast Cancer, who survived a battle with Breast Cancer, or who is currently fighting Breast Cancer. Before we begin reciting the rosary we will read their names and offer up the prayer in their honor. PARENT ROSARY 📿
Join our parent community this Monday, October 7th at 8:20am in the Anyta Doyle Building to pray the rosary together as we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. This idea was thoughtfully presented by a parent volunteer and we hope you can make it. Start your week with a beautiful prayer and the love of Mary on your side! See flier below for more details.
SCHOOL TRAFFIC AND SAFETY - UPDATE 🛑
If you arrive to school after 8:10am, you must park your car in the parking lot and have students walk to the office from the parking lot. Currently, we have a lot of cars stopping in front of the office for a drop off and I am concerned for the safety of all cars and our students as it is not a designated place to stop traffic. Thank you!

CHILD SAFETY 🚨
Did You Know?
October 5-6 || Why are personal boundaries important?
Personal boundaries are critical for every relationship and interaction we have in ministry or volunteer work. We set boundaries to protect ourselves and the people with whom we are interacting. As an employee or volunteer in ministry, you have an inherent, perceived power over those you serve. Because of this position of authority and power, the employee and volunteer’s priority should be the best interest of the person to whom they are ministering. To learn more about setting appropriate boundaries, read the VIRTUS® article “Ministerial Boundaries, Power and Authority” at lacatholics.org/did-you-know/.
October 12-13 || How can you be a good witness to the faith?
Adults have a responsibility to live out the Christian message — to love one another and to do God’s will. We also have a responsibility to help children learn how to live this way. Consider your role in protecting children by showing them how to be a witness to the Faith: following rules, modeling good behaviors like helping a neighbor, wearing your seatbelt, respecting the environment. Another way to witness is listening to the children in your life and paying attention to their interests, their needs, and their worries. For more ways to model the Faith, read the VIRTUS® article “Modeling Healthy Behaviors” at lacatholics.org/did-you-know/
Mission Statement
To educate TK-Eighth grade students in a Catholic environment in which the curriculum emphasizes spiritual, ethical, and social values of the Catholic faith to become responsible and moral citizens within the global community.
Philosophy
Supporting the belief that parents are the primary educators of their children, we as educators at St. Dorothy Catholic School, dedicate ourselves to partner with the parents in preparing children to become contributing members of the community. To achieve this, we provide holistic development in psychological, emotional, social and physical health, with an emphasis on academics, faith, and Christian service.
In collaboration with parents, we champion student achievement through the presentation, practice, and study of Catholic doctrine, a strong academic curriculum, multimedia and multi-cultural experiences, physical education, extracurricular programs, and the dedicated commitment of the teachers and staff.
