Muskego Lakes Family Newsletter
September 30, 2022
Dear Muskego Lakes Families,
At Muskego Lakes, we work hard daily to live out our vision of "Connecting Hearts & Minds Through Acceptance, Empowerment, and Achievement." It's what drives our staff's actions, thoughts, and plans as we work to connect with your child and help them succeed. Each part of this vision holds significance and importance to our daily work at Muskego Lakes and we wanted to share that with you.
- Connecting Hearts & Minds because while learning is a top priority for us, who our students are is just as important to us. When we connect with a child's heart, their minds are safe and open to learning. Connecting with a student's heart and mind allows us to see the whole child.
- Acceptance: Students welcome others and appreciate one another's unique strengths, interests, and abilities.
- Empowerment: Students building the strength and confidence needed to be independent.
- Achievement: Students having the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in high school and beyond.
We want you to know that we are focused on living out our vision as a school community. So, if anything interferes with your child's positive experience at Muskego Lakes, we want you to know that we will be here to intervene and support, so Muskego Lakes is a home away from home for all students! We are always here to partner with you, so please feel free to reach out.
In Partnership,
Rachel Rydzewski & Nancy Pasch
Muskego Lakes Principals

Important Reminders for Scheduling
Please add a message for the teacher!
In order for the conference to meet your needs, please indicate outcomes that would make the conference a success. When booking your appointment with a teacher on the booking grid, you will have the option to “Add a message for (teacher name).”
For 5th and 6th grade students
The 5th and 6th grade teachers teach either science/social studies, math/science or literacy/social studies. You will be able to sign up for those teachers only once, but will be able to talk about both classes during your conference.
For 7th and 8th grade students
If your account shows that your child has the same teacher for more than one class, PLEASE ONLY SIGN UP WITH THAT TEACHER ONCE. You will be able to talk about both classes during your conference.
How to book conferences with your child’s high school world language or math teacher (if applicable)
If your child attends Muskego High School for a world language or math class, please look for separate communication from the high school regarding setting up a conference with their teacher
Need more time with a teacher?
Conference bookings are for 10 minutes with a 2 minute gap between appointments. We ask that you be mindful of the schedule and the time limit so that all conferences run on time. If 10 minutes are not enough, please reach out to that teacher to make alternative arrangements on another date to accommodate your needs.

After School Transportation
Students are required to ride their assigned bus home. From time to time, students want to or need to go to a friend's house after school. In this situation, a signed note from home is needed. The note should contain the following:
- Student's first and last name
- Date of travel
- Assigned bus route #
- Friend they are going home with
- Friend's bus route #
- Parent/Guardian signature
The note should be dropped off at Student Services in the morning. Student Services will issue a bus pass that can be picked up in Student Services on the way out of school. Students are only able to ride a different bus if they have a school issued bus pass. Following this procedure ensures that buses leave on time and that all students are on the correct buses. Thank you for your help.
Free/Reduced Lunch Application
If your K-8 student(s) have been part of the free/ reduced lunch program for the 2021-22 school year, a new application needs to be completed prior to October 14, 2022 for the benefits to continue for the 2022-23 school year. If you have high school students, they start the school year with a paid status until a free/ reduced application is submitted and approved.
There was a waiver the last two school years due to COVID which allowed for the prior year’s meal status to be rolled over to the new school year. This waiver has ended so it is now necessary to return to the prior requirement that a new free/reduced lunch application be completed each school year. The free/ reduced application can be found on the Muskego Norway School District website under the Parents & Students tab:
https://www.muskegonorway.org/parents/FreeReduced.cfm
Please return the completed application to the food service office at the high school. If you have any questions, please contact Deb Matson at 262-971-1790 Ext. 4622 or
