Jarrell Elementary Newsletter May 20, 2024
Greetings JES Community!
It is hard to believe this school year is coming to a close. Our students have grown leaps and bounds this year. We could not be more proud of all they have accomplished academically, socially and emotionally. Next year, we have planned even more opportunities for our students to excel.
We simply could not do it without your partnership. We have enjoyed getting to know you at our community and family events like Grandparent's Day Lunch, Lit Night, STEAM Night, Awards and Graduation. Please know that we value our relationships with you and the community and look forward to growing together in the future. Our door is always open to hear your thoughts, ideas and suggestions.
Thank you for sharing your most precious gifts, your children, with us. We will miss them all, but we hope you have a wonderful summer together. We cannot wait to see you all in August!
With gratitude,
Lara Hutchinson

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
Our first ever Jarrell Elementary musical was a huge success!
Our amazing cast of Aladdin for Kids performed for the students at JES and one evening performance to a packed house. It was an absolutely wonderful production, and we could not be more proud of our students' talent, commitment and courage. A special thanks to our staff members who worked with our every week to help them prepare. Camille Shaw, Elizabeth Richardson, Lu Griffin, Clint Isaak, Brittany Martin, and of course our incredible music teacher, Tiffany Fisher!
Field Day Reimagined!
The weather caused us to change our field Day plans, but it could not stop our fun! We had a blast on the inflatables indoors, and our outdoor Field Day events will now be on Thursday, May 23rd. Special Thanks to our sponsors for making sure that every student received a super cool FIELD Day shirt FREE of charge!
Returning Student Verification
Parents of all returning students must log in to Ascender by May 23rd to verify their child is coming back to Jarrell ISD next school year. Verifying this information helps us determine staffing levels, schedules, and transportation needs.
Visit our Returning Student Verification webpage to start the process. It must be completed by May 23, 2024.
If you have questions, please contact your campus registrar, Terry Kurtz.
Let's reach that goal of 97% this week!
We have three weeks left of school! There are super fun activities and lessons planned for every day! Let's hit 97% every week! Your child's attendance is the most important factor in their success in school!
As always, if your child is running a fever or having diarrhea or vomiting, he/ she must stay home for 24 hours.

PRE-K
This week in pre-k, we will continue learning that changes take place all around us; everyone experiences change; some changes are small and hardly noticed and some changes have a big impact; and each birthday celebrates another year of growth and change.
In math, we will continue learning that data (information) can be collected through a survey (asking many people the same question). Also that data can be represented with numbers and symbols on a graph.
In literacy, we will continue learning that alliteration is the repetition of the beginning sound in two or more neighboring words; sentences begin with an uppercase letter and end with a punctuation mark; and each letter of the alphabet has a unique name, sound, and shape.
KINDER
1st GRADE
Reading:
We have completed our last unit for reading, so we will be using this time to complete some end of year assessments. Students will be assessed on their ability to read a text and comprehend what they are reading. We will be evaluating their accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression while reading a story aloud and answer questions about the story read aloud. Students will read individual words in isolation that feature closed syllables, magic āeā syllables, vowel digraph syllables, and r-controlled syllables.
Writing:
Students will be using the writing process to create an instructional writing. They will be writing instructions for how to do or make something by completing the steps in a logical order.
Phonics:
We will be finishing up our last unit in phonics. We will continue reading from our readers with a purpose and understanding and answer questions about key details in the text. Students will continue to use conjunctions and, but, so, and or to expand sentences and make them longer. Students will also punctuate sentences, adding periods, exclamation points, question marks, and commas in the appropriate places.
Math:
We will be finishing our unit over understanding numbers to 120 by taking an assessment. We will spend the last of the week reviewing our basic fact strategies to add and subtract within 20.
Social Studies and Social Studies:
We have completed all of our units for science and social studies. We will spend the last week talking about all of our favorite first grade memories.
2nd GRADE
During the last week of school we will be writing about our favorite memories in second grade and reflecting on all that we have learned throughout the year. Have a great summer!
3rd GRADE
Wow, what a year it has been! We have thoroughly enjoyed our time with this group of kids. We are so proud of everything they have accomplished this year. This week we intend to create more memories as we close on this school year! We hope everyone has a great summer ahead of them!
4th GRADE
We are looking forward to a fabulous last week of school! In language arts, we will do some fun activities using our novel Hello, Universe.
