Economics
In economics, seniors participated in a simulation to learn the value of trade. They started class by examining the contents of their bag which was filled with candy. From there, they were going to rate the contents of their bag as a whole and give it a rating of how satisfied they were with their bag from 1-10. Most students weren’t satisfied with their bag of candy so they started with a lower rating. They were able to trade with other people to change the candy in their possession and after each round of trading, they would then rate their bag from 1-10. The students noticed that their satisfaction was increasing each time. By the end of the activity, many students were giving their bags a value of 9 or 10. I would add up the value of each student's ratings in the first and last round and they saw how much of an increase there was from the first to last round. The quantity of candy did not change at all in the class. However, they were able to trade for what they wanted with stuff that other people wanted. This helped the students to learn the value of trade.
24-Hour Animation
Twenty-five students took part in this year’s 24-hour animation challenge, showcasing their creativity and dedication by producing four impressive 30-second films. We are incredibly proud of our talented student filmmakers and thrilled to announce that Gnomon is sponsoring our teams this year. As part of this sponsorship, students will enjoy an exclusive tour of Gnomon’s state-of-the-art facilities and receive a prize pack for the best in-house short film. Additionally, they’ll have front-row seats at a special Q&A session with Santa Monica Studio, the creative force behind games like God of War and Flower.
Day of the Dead Altar
Spanish students in Ms. Santiago's class recently brought the vibrant spirit of Día de los Muertos to life in the library by creating a beautifully crafted altar. They designed and assembled all the decorations, offerings, and photo frames, pouring creativity and care into every detail. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Ruesga for graciously providing a section of the library for this project and allowing students to share this beautiful cultural tradition with the community. The altar serves as a meaningful tribute, honoring loved ones while celebrating life and remembrance.

Pre-College Summer Programs
Maximize Your Summer as a High School Student—A pre-college summer program is a great way for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders to explore university life and see if a school is the right fit. While such programs vary in price, length and focus, most programs allow students to live on campus, attend classes and meet peers. They also help you understand whether or not you should pursue a specific major.
Many colleges and universities offer both online and in-person pre-college programs. Please click here to learn more.
