RENAISSANCE 8TH GRADE CPR & AED TRAINING
The School's health teacher, Ms. Robinson, has been teaching our older students the basics of cardio-pulmonary-resusitation and how to use AEDs (automated external defibrillators). Any one of us may encounter a person who needs assistance with heart function and breathing prior to the arrival of medical personnel. The more students and adults are empowered to help, the more likely lives can be saved. Ms. Robinson's students used special mannequins and model defibrillators to practice their skills. In-person demonstrations and videos provided the guidance they needed for the practice sessions.
RENAISSANCE OPERATION HAPPINESS FOOD DELIVERY
On Friday, December 8th, many of the Renaissance 8th Graders hauled the food sorted and boxed by 7th graders out to a school bus. They then rode over to the highgate shopping center to offload the donations in the empty former dollar store space.
ADVENTURERS ASSEMBLING A SNOWMAN USING P.E. EQUIPMENT
After a warmup of noodle tag, Ms. Bolton's and Bloom's students played a relay race game using items of P.E. equipment. Each of the two gym teachers, Ms. Jarvis and Mr. Fleming, took a classroom group and had them design a snowman. All the snowman parts were left at the far end of the gym. The two classroom groups lined up next to each other at the other end of the gym. Then, students from each group took turns running to collect and bring back one part of their group's snowman. When they returned, they placed their item on their gradually-assembling snowman shape. This was an activity which kept students motivated to move and excited to be a part of a construction crew.
7TH AND 8TH GRADE MUSHROOM SCULPTURES
During this project students used wire, tin foil, tape, paper towels and a CD to make an armature for a forest floor sculpture. They then added model magic to create the final shape, painted details, and added other materials to refine the scene. Some are realistic mini-worlds, and some are fantastical, but all are fun and creative. Enjoy! - Ms. Montgomery.
A number of the sculptures are on display in the library.
