Dear Lake Louise Families,
We are celebrating an incredible start to the new year at The Lake! It has been an absolute joy to have our Lions back and we love having our preschoolers and kindergarten students with us all day. I am so proud of the sense of belonging and connection we are building together.
The staff and I are excited to share information about the curriculum and daily activities of the students with their families on Thursday, September 19th at our Parent Orientation Night. This is an important evening for families to connect with their child's classroom teacher and one another. Parent Orientation Night is for parents/guardians only. Please see below for specific grade level orientation times.
6:00 pm - 6:30 pm:
2nd grade, 3rd grade, 5th grade
6:35 pm - 7:05 pm:
Bilingual Pre-K & Kinder, 1st grade, 4th grade
Physicals and immunization records are due to our school nurse by October 15th for students in Preschool/ECDEC and Kindergarten. If records are not turned in by this date, students will be excluded from school until we obtain the records. Please complete this state requirement for your child. If you have any questions or need support in obtaining these records, please contact our health office at 847-963.5602.
After Parent Orientation at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, please join me for the first Lake Louise PTA Meeting of the school year. We will meet in our Multipurpose Room. Your involvement is crucial to our PTA's success. We hope you'll join us to discuss upcoming events and share your ideas. We look forward to working together to create a thriving community.
Please plan to join us for the Lake Louise PTA Back to School Bash this coming Friday, September 20th from 5:00-7:30 p.m. This annual tradition is a wonderful time for our community to come together and celebrate one another and another outstanding start to the year. This PTA event has many fun activities, delicious food offerings, and includes the opportunity to shop at the fan favorite, Scholastic Book Fair.
Lastly, please note that Thursday, September 26th is a half day of attendance. Students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m.
It's always a great day at The Lake!

Scholastic Book Fair
Scholastic Book Fair Dates:
Dates: Sept. 19th and 20th during school hours for students
Sept. 20th Back to School Bash 4:30-7:00
Location: Vestibule during school hours and GYM during Back to School Bash
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage:
https://www.scholastic.com/bf/lakelouiseelementaryschool
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called
Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books
from the Fair.
Lake Louise Spirit Wear!
The PTA is holding a Spirit Wear fundraiser again this year. Can we please include this information in the biweekly newsletter as well as a text reminder to all parents on September 10th, 17th and 24th?
Lake Louise Spirit wear can be ordered until September 30th at midnight using the link: https://waistupstores.com/lake_louise_lions
All funds raised go towards events the PTA plans for the year like Assemblies, Trunk or Treat and the new Spring Dance!
We only do Spirit wear once per year so now is the time to get it! This year there is NO SHIPPING costs as all items will be delivered to the school and distributed to each child's class to bring home.
NWEA Measures of Academic Progress Testing
Each year, District 15 students in grades 2 through 8 participate in an academic assessment called the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). The MAP test measures your child’s achievement in reading and math. Most students complete the MAP in less than 40 minutes. This assessment provides our staff with valuable information that helps in planning instruction and tracking student growth. Student stake the MAP twice annually—once in September and again in May. For more detailed information, please visit the District Assessment Calendar on our District 15 website. Ensuring your child is well-rested and prepared for the MAP test can positively impact their performance. To help your child practice for the MAP test, you can visit the MAP practice site at: http://bit.ly/PracticeMAPTest.
The MAP test results help school staff identify each student's reading and math skills, allowing them to tailor instruction to focus on specific areas for improvement. Additionally, the test results are used to monitor your child's academic growth over time. MAP test results from the fall and spring testing
periods will be available to parents via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. These results are typically
posted in October and June.
For more information about the MAP test, please contact your child’s teacher or download the MAP

BPAC Welcome Back to School Picnic
Our Spanish Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee would like to invite our D15 families to our 4th Annual Welcome Back to School Picnic on Saturday, September 21, from 10:00-1:00 pm at Winston Campus. Please see this flyer for details.
Palatine Library Parent Workshop
Palatine Public library is hosting a free parent workshop for PreK-8 families. Some of our social workers and counselors will host a panel of local experts who will speak about topics including tips to calm and reduce anxiety, healthy relationships, tools for a successful school year and the importance of daily routines. Please see this event flyer for more details.
Charge Chromebooks Every Day!
Power Up Learning!
To ensure a smooth start, we kindly request that you help your child develop the habit of bringing their fully charged Chromebook to school every day.
A charged Chromebook is like a backpack filled with essential learning tools – it opens doors to interactive lessons, research projects, and creative activities. By having their device ready to go, your child will be well-prepared to dive into each day's learning adventures
Student Bus Route Information
MyRide K12
This year our Transportation Department is using the app MyRide K12 for all students using our bus service. We encourage parents to download and use the app for timely access to your child's busing information.
MyRide K12 will have all the information for your student's bus route. Additionally, our Transportation Department will use MyRide K12 to communicate any changes to daily routes. Parents will be able to get LIVE transportation information for their student(s), in English or in Spanish. You will also be able to track your student(s) bus, and the app will give you a real-time ETA to their stop.
Annual Safety Drill Notice
The safety of our students is always a top priority at our school. Our goal is not only to provide a safe environment, but to also prepare our students, staff, and school community to know how to respond if a crisis arises. To that end, each year, schools are required by Illinois School Code to conduct safety drills.
This year, as in years past, we will do 2 lockdown drills, 3 fire drills, 1 bus evacuation drill, and 1 shelter in place drill. Our school will also have a relocation drill in this year. For lockdown drills, parents have the option to opt their student out of the drill. The student will still be in the building during the drill, but will sit in a room with a different teacher and talk through the steps of the lockdown procedure instead of taking part in the drill with their classmates. If you would like to opt your student out of lockdown drills, please complete the Safety Drill Opt-Out Form.
