The Spartans have been busy this month with 3 tournaments. Saturday we got the results of two.
First was the online Highlands Invitational out of Pearl City, Hawaii. Out of 111 teams, Seven Lakes came in 2nd! Please congratulate the following students for starting the season off with an impressive performance.
Saturday the team competed in the University of Texas Invitational, which brings in top teams from all over the US, including 3 that were top 5 at Nationals last year. Our Spartans came back with a 4th place trophy and lots of medals. Please congratulate the following students for doing so well in their first in person tournament of the season.
Spartan Poems published in "The Young American Poetry Digest!"
We’d like to extend our CONGRATULATIONS to the following Spartans:

Kushal Bheemireddy
Mahati Chintalapati
HIllary Elumelu
Sadie Gerber
Thomas Kannala
Phoebe Large
Navya Singh
Ashlyn Roy
Tanya Thind
These Spartans poems were published in the 2024 edition of The Young American Poetry Digest. In Spring 2024, students were invited to submit their poems to the Young Poets National Schools Project, which aims to inspire student writing and provide a platform for young poets. Submissions are reviewed by educators, who select the best works for publication based on criteria such as creativity, age-appropriate language, sensory and figurative imagery, structure, and poetic techniques. If a poem is chosen, both the student and the school library receive a copy of the published book.
These students were in Mrs. Karen Mabry, Mrs. Sharon Flores, Mrs. Jennifer Eubanks', and Mrs. Kimberley Hord’s RLA classes when they submitted their poems. They were informed of their poem being selected in late May 2024 and recently received a copy of their book. Our Spartans remarkable creativity and talent have earned them this well-deserved recognition. We are incredibly proud of our Spartan authors!
Counseling News
Private School Recommendations
Students that are requesting records and recommendations for private school enrollments will complete this documentation through the SLJH Counseling office. All documentation for Private School Recommendations, including Teacher/Counselor/Principal Recommendations should be brought to Tonya Brickey, Registrar. If the recommendations are via an emailed link, please send the email with the link directly to the teachers. Please allow 10 business days for completion.
Withdrawing Students
Student Withdrawals – Please read the withdrawal procedure and complete the Katy ISD Leaver Document as soon as possible.**
Students withdrawing from Seven Lakes Junior High should give the registrar as much advance notice as possible, at least one week advanced notice. For moves out of country, please allow two weeks for a complete set of hand carry records. This notice will ensure that we are able to complete the withdrawal process as needed to collect withdrawal grades, textbook & library checks, and required signatures. Please complete the Katy ISD Leaver Document (Spanish) and return to the Registrar as notice of your withdrawal. Please have photo ID upon your student’s withdraw, as a copy of your ID and your signature will also be needed on the Withdrawal Form on your child’s last day of school.
Learning.Com Technology Resource
We are excited to share that your student is using digital content from Learning.com as part of our district's focus on Technology Applications. Learning.com’s content is delivered online through a secure login, so your student can easily access assignments from home. Topics in Learning.com include Online Safety, Digital Citizenship, Computer Fundamentals, Data Literacy, Productivity Tools, and Keyboarding.
How students login at home and school:
• Login to My Katy Cloud and search for Learning.com
• Use the “Classes” button in the top right to navigate between subject area pathways.
• Choose a tile on the pathway to begin.
Have you seen an SLJH staff member demonstrate the Spartan Creed? Nominate them!
Don't worry, students get nominated too! Our staff members are able to nominate students who display the creed on campus.
Parent App for Monitoring Chromebook Internet Activity
Dear Katy ISD 3rd- 12th Grade Parents/Guardians and Staff,
We have some exciting news to share! The district, in partnership with its web-filter vendor, ContentKeeper, is launching a pilot program for a new parent mobile app. The app is designed to enhance internet safety and promote responsible online use on district-owned Chromebooks. With the app, Katy ISD parents and guardians are able to monitor their student’s internet history and real-time activity outside of school hours. Additionally, the ContentKeeper app allows parents to restrict internet access as needed, providing an extra layer of control to encourage safe online behavior while using district-owned devices.
Getting Started!
If you're interested in participating in the pilot program, please submit a ticket through MyKaty under
Parent Tech Support. To verify your request, you’ll need to provide your Home Access Center ID and your student’s ID. Once this information is validated, you will receive an invitation from “portal-noreply@contentkeeper.com” to install the CKPortal (ContentKeeper) app. Please follow the instructions in the email to get started.
District Level Monitoring
The school district will continue to monitor and filter students' internet activity both during and outside of school hours.
Support and Assistance
If you have any questions or encounter any issues with the application, please reach out to Parent
Tech Support via MyKaty. Our district Technology team is here to help you effectively utilize this tool to ensure your students' online safety and productivity.
For any questions, please don’t hesitate to submit a Parent Tech Support ticket through MyKaty.

Ordering a Replacement ID
Students must wear their ID at all times. Students who do not have their ID during the school day will be given a temporary ID.
If your student loses their ID, they can come to the library to purchase a new ID. The $3 charge will be applied to their account and the parent will receive an email with the link to pay.

1. Send email to this email address: ID-SLJH@katyisd.org
2. YOU MUST include a copy of your photo ID in the email request. If you do not provide a picture of your photo ID, your request will be deleted and you will need to resubmit.

Updates from Nurse Jenkins
Medical Accommodations for 2024-2025
All medical accommodations for school require a Doctor's Note to be turned into the clinic each school year. Rolling Backpacks are not permitted at Seven Lakes Junior High due to the large number of students in the hallway. The only exceptions are for those with orthopedic needs verified by a specialist doctor's note yearly. If you have any questions, please email Nurse Jennie at jenniferajenkins@katyisd.org
Medications
Students are not allowed to carry any medication at school. Cough drops are considered medication and may not be carried at school. Peppermints are a good substitute for cough drops if your student needs something to help during the school day. EpiPens and inhalers may be carried but ONLY with proper paperwork turned into the clinic first filled out by a physician. Please email or call the clinic if you have any medication administration questions. Please do not send medication with your child to drop off in the clinic without the proper Katy ISD paperwork filled out by a parent AND physician. Katy ISD medication paperwork can be picked up in the clinic or requested by email from Nurse Jennie.
If your child forgot to take their medication at home or needs another dose during the school day, PARENTS (only) are able to medicate their child in the front office during the school day. Please bring a valid photo ID and water if needed to do so. The student will take the medication in the office and the parent will need to take home any extra medication. Students may not carry any medication with them.
6th Grade Parents: Eleven-Year-Old Immunizations
Please turn in a copy of your child's eleven-year-old immunizations (TDAP and Meningitis) to jenniferajenkins@katyisd.org to clear your child's TDAP and Meningitis immunization requirements. These immunizations are due before 7th grade and need to be turned in as soon as possible. These are the last state required immunizations that must be turned into Katy ISD. If you need a place for your child to receive these immunizations, please see the Katy ISD Immunization Clinic dates below.
Seven Lakes Ladies
Please keep monthly supplies refilled in your child's backpack as well as an extra pair of leggings and underwear. Surprises happen all the time and most of our students do not want to change into dress code pants. Extra feminine supplies are available in the clinic. If your child is coming too frequently for supplies a parent will be notified as our supplies are limited.
