Demo Family Memo
October 14th, 2024
Principal Message
Dear Demo Families,
It has been another fantastic week at "The School of Champions"! Our Homecoming week was truly special, culminating in a wonderful assembly organized by our Leadership students. It was a great celebration of Demo Pride as we came together to honor one another.
As a reminder, our Homecoming Dance is tomorrow, Saturday, 10/19, from 7 PM to 10 PM in our Large Gym. It promises to be a fun and festive way to close out our Homecoming activities!
Please take a moment to read this newsletter, especially regarding the enforcement of the no hoods policy in our school.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to celebrating together!
Take care,
Drake
Hoodies
Dear Families,
This week, we have begun enforcing the PPS District-Wide no hoods policy, which was established for safety reasons. For your reference, I have attached the policy with the relevant section regarding hats and hoods highlighted.
Please note that the guideline stating "Hoodies must allow the student's face and ears to be visible to staff" is intended for identification purposes, ensuring the safety of all students and staff. This provision, rooted in religious considerations, should not be taken out of context. The main goal of this policy is to enhance security within our buildings and prevent unauthorized individuals from accessing our schools.
If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please feel free to reach out to any of the administrators: Shelton, Gregory, or Johns.
Thank you for your understanding and support in ensuring the safety of our school community.
Best regards
Drake

Main Office
How to Excuse an Absence
As a parent or guardian, you have several options to excuse your student's attendance:
Call 503-916-5180 Option 2 (please leave a message if it goes to voicemail); The office checks voicemail until 4:00pm daily
Email JeffersonAttend@pps.net
Send a note with your student with signature and contact information.
An absence may be excused if the absence is caused by:
* Sickness/ ILL
*An emergency
* Pre Arranged Appointment
*If your student has a medical appointment, have reception print them out an attendance note
* Or other urgent emergencies
We are having a high volume of parents excusing absences, and want to make sure you know that these cannot continue to be excused, if they don't fit the above criteria
Attendance Coach
Below you will find the Attendance percentages for our entire Student body. This Data was pulled 10/18/24 and is as follows:
Green = Students Attending 90% of school to 100%
Yellow = Students Attending 80% of school to 89.9%
Red = Students Attending 79.9% of school and below
The JHS Attendance Support Intervention Ladder, or "Attendance Ladder" for short, is our school's approach to addressing unexcused attendance codes such as LAT (Late after Tardy) and SKP (Skipping). When students have unexcused absences without a valid and documented excuse, they will meet with the Student Attendance Coach and be placed on the ladder. For any questions, please contact La’Mar Winston Jr., the Student Attendance Coach.
