Volume 3 ~ Issue 7 ~ Week of September 2, 2024
💛 Message from the Principal 💛
Progress Reports are being sent out this Friday, marking the seventh week of school. These reports provide a snapshot of your child's academic progress so far this year. They are a valuable tool to help you gauge where your child is excelling and where they might need additional support. Remember, these are not final grades, but rather an early indicator of how students are performing. This is a great opportunity to reflect and make any necessary adjustments to ensure continued success as we move deeper into the school year.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education. Please feel free to reach out to your child’s teachers or our counselor if you have any questions or need further support. Let's continue to work together to make this school year a great one!
It's a short but jam-packed week so be sure to read all of the important info in the newsletter below! Let's make it a great week, Vikings!! 💛

Parents, it's not too late to join our 1st Viking Shadow Day of the Year!
Parents/Guardians, you are cordially invited to our first Viking Shadow Day of the Year! This is an opportunity for you to come shadow your child in their classes and interact with their teachers. The event starts at 8:15am and after a brief meeting with admin, you are off to your child's classes. That day is a full day schedule so each class is approximately 57 minutes long. You are welcome to stay as long as you'd like, for as many periods as you'd like. At lunch, we'd love for you to join Ms. Scott for some pizza and opportunity for Q & A. Please click the link below to RSVP so we have an accurate count. We hope to see you there on Tuesday, September 3rd!
🔔 Tuesday is a Full Day Bell Schedule 🔔
Don't forget that Tuesday is our first Full Day Bell Schedule of the year. This means that there is no Advisory and you attend all 6 of your classes with nutrition break and lunch included as well. Please review the bell schedule below so you are prepared.
☕ Coffee with the Principal - September 5th @8:30am ☕

We'll provide an update on all things MVA, have a guest presentation, and then you'll be able to get your child's progress report a day early! Hope to see you there! Can't join in person? Log on via Zoom from your phone or work computer! See login info below!
Progress Reports come out this Friday!!
Parents/Guardians, students will receive printed copies of their Progress Reports during last period on Friday. Please remind them to show you when they get home. You can also log into Infinite Portal to view your child's Progress Report there.
If you are not pleased with the grades reflected on the Progress Report, don’t worry—there is still plenty of time to improve. First, take some time to discuss the report with your child to understand their perspective on their performance. Encourage them to attend before or after-school tutoring, ask for help from teachers, and set small, manageable goals to address areas of concern. Click the link below for Tutoring and Saturday Academy schedules.
On the other hand, if your child is doing well, celebrate their achievements! Positive reinforcement goes a long way in motivating students to keep up the good work. Consider setting new goals to maintain or even improve their progress, and continue to encourage good study habits and organization. Whether the grades are high or lower than expected, we are here to support every student on their path to success.

Ms. Scott's Temporary Leave of Absence - Sept. 6-Oct. 6
Viking Families, I just wanted to give you a heads up that I will be taking a temporary leave of absence from Friday, September 6th through October 6th to recover from a hip replacement surgery. In my absence, former MVA Principal, Mr. Tom Winters will be covering me and providing support to our students and staff. As always, my Assistant Principal, Mr. Juan Murillo, is also there to support and answer any questions, comments, or concerns. You will all be in good hands as there is no doubt that Mr. Winters and Mr. Murillo will take good care of you all. It is my hope that I will return after Fall Break ready to challenge all of our Vikings in the next Students vs. Staff game or field day events!! 😉 Until then, let's finish these last 3 weeks strong and have a wonderfully relaxing, restful, and enjoyable Fall Break with your loved ones! 💛 Take care, Vikings!

EduAbroad Trip to Japan - Deadline to apply is September 9th
We are grateful to Mar Vista Academy and students for hosting our international students last month! While your students have been getting to know our international students, learning about their culture, and hearing them talk about food, hometowns, etc., we are hoping that we could also create an experience for your students as well, for them to go and learn for themselves about another culture! This would be an opportunity for our local American students to experience another culture, not just by hearing about it from our international students, but through their own firsthand experience!
This trip is provided by EduAbroad during the two-week Spring Break in 2025. We have organized this trip yearly since 2015 and are happy to offer this unique, educational and cultural experience to your students in 2025.
Our trip is all-inclusive, including airfare, hotels, meals, exciting attractions, and transportation. The only thing that isn't included is if students want to buy additional snacks outside of meals, or shopping for gifts for themselves or others. This makes it simple for students and their families.
For any questions, please contact us at 858-605-0085.
