Weekly Update March 7th
26 days until state testing! Our Eagles will SOAR!
Dear Lancaster High School Eagle Families
We are one day removed from our Eagle Expo, where we were able to share with the upcoming freshman class about our school programs. The room was full of excitement and nervous energy as our soon-to-be freshmen navigated table after table to hopefully get an idea of what class or program they want to be a part of. We want to thank the MANY programs, clubs, and teams who participated in putting this event together.
In two weeks, our 3rd quarter will end. Eagles, monitor your grades and put your best effort forward for this progress report. Athletes, remember, this grade period determines athletic eligibility (you need your 2.0 or higher).
We are 26 days away from the day our Juniors and Sophomores will be participating in state testing, which is our school's Superbowl. This is the day we get to show off and show what our students have learned. For our teachers, this is a huge event as they get to see how our students are progressing through the curriculum. More info to follow.
Check the table of contents each week to make sure you are not missing any important information.
Seniors, review the senior section below! You have deadlines approaching all the time and it is easy to get confused. Use the "Senior Section - Class of 2025 Info" section in this update to keep up to

Last day for Open Enrollment
TODAY IS THE LAST DAY FOR Open Enrollment. Open Enrollment is the process that allows students to request to attend a school other than the school for which they are zoned (also known as their school of residence). If you are interested in Multimedia or Engineering, these are two academies that Lancaster High School has and if interested, you are able to apply for Open Enrollment. CLICK HERE to apply.
Completing an Open Enrollment application does not enroll your student with AVUHSD. Enrollment information will be mailed to you by the AVUHSD high school that your student is zoned to attend.
Tutoring
Before School Tutoring
We have tutoring for most subjects daily, including Math, Bio, Chem, Spanish, ESS, English Language, and general tutoring. Each day there will be 8 tutors!
Tutoring will have a check in-check out system so parents, teachers, and coaches may monitor their student's attendance (some teacher's allow extra credit for tutoring). Space is limited each morning, so make sure your student is on time and goes directly to the library for tutoring.
After School Tutoring
At home LIVE virtual tutoring (24 hours a day)
Did you know that your student has LIVE 24 HOUR FREE tutoring available in your student's PowerSchool? Our district has partnered with Princeton Review to provide every student with this amazing service. Your student can be connected with a tutor in any subject any time of the day, for FREE. These are not videos, they are live, vetted, tutors. Think of Uber, but for tutoring! The tutors will even edit papers for your student with less than a 24 hour turn-a-round period.
The easiest way to access this free, live, virtual tutoring, is to:
- Have your student log into their Power School (it helps if you log into google first)
- Look on the left side of the screen and find the "Homework Help" button
- It will prompt you to log into Google with your student account if have not already
- Click on the button for tutoring
- Answer the questions and you will be directed to a liver tutor virtually

Temp Check
Also, weekly we provide a "Temperature Check" or "Temp Check," as we call it. These are weekly discussions and challenges for our students. Our goal is to create positive habits and positive attitudes... or as we call it, positive habitudes!
Artists of the Week
This week's artists of the week include work from Art 1 and Art 2.
Art 1 created pieces inspired by Andy Warhol and the Pop Art Movement. Students drew an image of their choice then used a transfer technique to draw the same image multiple times, not exactly printmaking but as close as we can get with just pencil and paper!
Art 2 worked meticulously on scratchboards. The goal was to achieve a wide range of values and textures. Anybody that has ever tried a scratchboard knows that this is not an easy task given the medium.
Attached is a video showing the pieces that are up in the classroom (only 1 minute in length)! There are also pieces up in the gallery that are not featured in the video.
Artists in the gallery include the following students:
Brianna Angel, Connor Helmandollar, Chanel Cortez Castillo, Emily Sargsyan, Cameron Matira, Marleena Fennell, Amanda Lopez, Katherine Maldonado, Brianna Alquicira, and Jada Revis.

Anonymous Eagles Celebrated Last Night at Board Meeting
Last night our Anonymous Eagles presented their program to the AVUHSD Board and Cabinet. The presentation they gave was absolutely wonderful. Hearing the feedback from the board and cabinet warmed my heart. They represented themselves, the program, and the school so well. Ryan McDaniel had his team prepared and has shown tremendous leadership of this program. Congrats to Ryan and our Anonymous Eagles Team!

Lunch Deliveries
As always, safety and security is a top priority across the Antelope Valley Union High School District. It is with this in mind that we will not be able to allow students and/or parents/guardians to place food orders for delivery to our schools during the school day.
This practice not only causes a disruption to the school environment but also poses a potential security threat. As such, beginning immediately school staff will not accept any food deliveries, nor will delivery personnel be allowed onto our campuses. If your student does not bring a meal or snack, there are no-cost healthy options available in the cafeteria every day.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and your cooperation in keeping our school safe and secure. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Santoyo at asantoyo@avhsd.org
