Quarter 1: Sep 17th, 2024
Updates
- Conferences are this week! Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be early release at 11:45. If you do not have a conference, please sign up ASAP!
- Benchmark Exams are next week on Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your student gets good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast, and arrives to school on time.
- Students have been given practice exams as homework. I highly encourage students do these.
- If you haven't already joined our ClassDojo, please do so ASAP, as this will be my main method of communication. There is a QR code below.
- We have begun our Heritage Project. Please remember to check in with your student weekly and help them finish any work at home that is not finished in the classroom.
- Please give your student a reusable water bottle for school use with their name on it. These can be kept in the classroom. Please, no single-use water bottles! I am happy to buy a reusable water bottle for anyone that needs one, please let me know.
- If your student enjoys eating ice, please allow them to keep a cup in the classroom, or they may use their water bottle if the opening is wide enough.
- It can get chilly in our classroom, so students may keep a sweatshirt here if they would like. Students may also keep a pair of slippers to wear while in the classroom.
- At Borton, we celebrate birthdays at the end of every month. If you would ever like to bring in treats for the class to celebrate your student's birthday, please wait until the last Friday of the month.
- We will be discussing the upcoming U.S. presidential election in the coming weeks. Please let me know if you have any concerns about this.
- Our Heritage Project will include weekly assignments. I highly recommend getting a planner for your student to use to help keep track of deadlines.
Homework
In 5th grade, students are expected to read for 20 minutes every day. Additionally, students are expected to practice their multiplication facts every day. Knowing their times tables will be the key to 5th grade math, and students who have memorized them will have a much simpler time.
Unfinished classwork may be sent home as homework at times. Please note that I will send home additional homework for projects, as well as optional homework and games to help students practice skills learned in class. I highly recommend playing educational games with your students whenever possible and making flashcards to practice multiplication problems.
Students also will always receive math books throughout the year to keep at home that correlate with what we are learning in class. Please hold on to these books to use for at-home math practice.
Heritage Project
Heritage Project
As of now, students should be finished with their Family Trees, Flag and Map, Language Video, and Travel Brochure. Any students who are behind will need to finish their work at home. We are currently working on our Interviews at home.
Please note that I have made some changes and that students' Timelines will not be due for another week (Oct. 2nd) and that the Music assignment will be moved to next Quarter.
