From Mr. Hoel:
Dear Parents,
Thank you all for joining us for conferences over the last couple of weeks. Besides the obvious benefit of ensuring that home/school connection and getting as close to the same page with your teacher(s) as possible in these busy times, there is also a huge impact on your student's view of the importance of school just by seeing you walk in the building. There is a mountain of research around how we get students to "buy-in" to school and their education. One of the most impactful things we can do along those lines is to simply be in the building as parents for those big events. When our students see that it matters to us as parents, it builds a sense of attachment in them as well. Thank you for making the time to do that!!
Along those same lines, I feel like we are experiencing a renaissance of sorts when it comes to parent engagement and involvement. While we all did what we could during and coming out of the pandemic, there was a definite, observable negative impact on engagement and volunteerism. It has been exciting to see that tide begin to turn back evidenced by a quick response to any call for support, full rooms at PTO meetings, legions of folks turning out to help with the book fair, classroom volunteer schedules full to overflowing, etc etc. Again, thank you for all that you do, big and small, to support our school and our students!
With conferences behind us, we turn our attention to the two big events coming up. This Thursday we will have our kickoff assembly for our annual fundraiser, The Turkey Trot. Our focus this year is to put even more FUN into this fun run fundraiser! Look for more information to be coming home soon and thank you in advance for your support leading up to and during the big day on November 7th. The second big event on the horizon is our annual Halloween parade and classroom parties. The parade will be right after the bell rings in the morning on the 31st with parties kicking off at around 2:30. Again, look for more information coming home soon from your classroom teacher.
Finally, we want to celebrate the students we recognized at this month's awards ceremonies. Students were celebrated for their accomplishments in 4 areas: Academic Achievement (Mountain Top Award), Academic Effort (Lynx Spirit Award), Behavior (5B Master Award), and Citizenship.
