Love of Reading 📚
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Reading together at home is one of the most powerful ways you can support your child’s education and foster a love of learning. Studies consistently show that students who are read to regularly not only develop stronger language skills but also improve in comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking. Just 15–20 minutes of reading time each night can make a significant impact on your child’s academic success and overall confidence.
Here are some tips to make reading time enjoyable and beneficial:
- Make it a Routine: Consistent, daily reading builds good habits and a special time for you and your child to bond.
- Ask Questions: As you read, ask open-ended questions to help your child think critically and understand the story better.
- Explore Interests: Let your child choose books that match their interests—whether it’s animals, sports, or fairy tales—keeping reading engaging and fun.
- Read Aloud Together: Sharing a story aloud can bring it to life. Encourage your child to read along or take turns to practice fluency.
Thank you for your partnership in helping our students become strong, confident readers! Together, we can create a positive reading experience that will benefit them for years to come.
What are students studying in Math?
3rd Grade:
Students are currently working on learning multiplication.
Tips:
-Practice for a few minutes every day. Singing songs with rhymes for multiplication tables, playing games like card, board, or online multiplication games, and using visual aids like multiplication charts and flashcards are all beneficial.
4th Grade:
Students are currently working on finding multiples of two numbers and identifying which numbers are common multiples.
Example:
4: 4, 8,12, 16,20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, and 48
9: 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90, 99, and 108
Tips:
-Create or print multiplication charts and factor trees. Engage students in activities such as factor bingo, where they must identify the factors of the numbers on their cards. Examples from the real world are excellent. Ask pupils to divide up things like treats among friends or groups.
5th Grade:
Students are currently working on adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions.
Steps for unlike fractions:
-Step 1: Find the least common denominator
-Step 2: Rewrite & Solve
-Step 3: Simplify
6th Grade:
Students are currently learning how to to use addition and subtraction in order to find the sum or difference of numbers with decimals.
Examples:
44.53 + 0.0005 = 44.5305
Tips:
-To make addition and subtraction simple, demonstrate to children how to write numbers vertically while ensuring that the decimals match up. Talk about how the value of each digit is influenced by its position (tenths, hundredths, etc.). Practice with real-life scenarios, like shopping or measuring. Ask questions that involve adding or subtracting prices or measurements.
