CASTLE CHRONICLES - MARCH 4, 2024
FUTURE DIPLOMATS: SMHS STUDENTS ATTEND MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE
On Saturday, March 2, SMHS's future diplomats immersed themselves in passionate debates at the Boston College High School MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE. With poise and eloquence, they tackled a variety of topics: Immigration, the British Monarchy, an African Basketball League, Resources in Antarctica, the Hunger Games Crisis and the Assassination of Julius Caesar.

From FIELD TO FUTURE: Senior Field Hockey Star Signs for Success!
Senior Julia Giampietro signed her letter of intent to continue her field hockey career at Southern New Hampshire University this fall! Julia’s family, teammates, and coaches were all in attendance for the memorable occasion! SMHS is so proud of you, Julia!
SMHS MATHCOUNTS JOURNEY TO THE STATE COMPETITION
SMHS mathematicians Brian Barrett, Prisha Bajracharya, Max Brooks-Lantry and Damian Panev qualified to compete at the State Championship MathCounts competition on Saturday, March 2, at UMass Lowell. With focused determination, they tackled complex math problems by applying problem-solving strategies and critical thinking skills. They excelled under the pressure of competing against 40 other schools at this elite math championship. They truly are SMHS's Magnificient Mathletes!
Andy Lemoi, Shamus Dever, and Jacob Waitt enthusiastically attended the competition to cheer on their amazing MathCounts teammates! This marks only the second time SMHS has qualified for the state meet! Our school community is so proud of our students. Congratulations!

SMHS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM TRIUMPS
SUPER FANS NEEDED AGAIN ON TUESDAY NIGHT, MARCH 5 at 6:00 PM at SMHS
FAN-TASTIC SPIRIT!
Our girls varsity basketball team beat Hudson on Friday night 66-37 in Round 32 of the MIAA Tournament to move on to the Sweet 16. They will play North Reading at home on Tuesday night at 6:00 PM at SMHS. We want to recognize our Super Fans who came out in full support! We’ll need you all again on Tuesday night, March 5! See you there!

SKATING TO SUCCESS!
Boys hockey continued their winning ways on Saturday by upending Gardner in a hard fought game eventually coming out on top 6-3. The boys will face off against Dover Sherborn on Wednesday at 5:00 PM at the Stoneham Arena in the Elite 8!
Girls hockey came up short in a battle against Nauset on Sunday afternoon at Charles Moore Arena in Orleans. The 13th ranked Blue Knights lost 4-0 to the 4th ranked Warriors, but we could not be more proud of the season our squad had! Keep your heads up high!

SANDWICH SOUL'S SOUNDS FOR SUNSHINE
On Friday evening, the SMHS auditorium buzzed with excitement and awe as our award-winning show choir, SANDWICH SOUL, performed to a full house! Families, friends and community members gathered to enjoy an extraordinary evening of entertainment provided by our exceptionally talented student singers and musicians. All proceeds from the concert help SANDWICH SOUL travel to Florida in April to compete against the nation's most talented student choirs. Everyone present on Friday evening knows without a doubt that Sandwich Soul will out-sing and outshine the competition!
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
You are invited to attend our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on March 6 from 1:15 PM - 3:15 PM and 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and on March 20 from 1:15 PM - 3:15 PM. Conferences are valuable opportunities to discuss your child's progress, academic performance and goals. Your participation is vital to our partnership and we're excited to collaborate with you to ensure your child's success.

SCHEDULING FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2024-2025
School counselors will be meeting with students in grades 7-11 in the next couple of weeks to begin the scheduling process for the 2024-2025 school year. Please reach out to your child's school counselor or Ms. Kathy Lucas, Director of Guidance, with questions. Counselors will also be available during parent-teacher conferences on March 6 and March 20.

UPDATED SMHS SPRING 2024 TESTING DATES
Due to the recent snow day, there have been some changes to the spring testing calendar. Grade 8 science will be testing on May 21 and May 22, and the first day of final exams is now June 10.
