Principal’s Message
Forestburg School
March 2025
As we turn our sights on the month of March, we are beginning to see signs that winter may be loosening it’s grip and warmer temperatures may be on their way. It has been a long winter and I’m confident everyone is looking forward to the additional daylight and plus temperatures. Along with the warmer weather, we have also experienced a great deal of sickness as a school community. It goes without saying that we are all looking forward to spring break, which is only a few weeks away. It always seems that it arrives at a very welcome time and this year is no exception.
A few things that have come to light more recently include the notion of permission slips, which are quite relevant to most parents. Battle River School Division uses a program called Rycor, as I’m sure you are aware. I am learning this program myself, but I have come to know a few key ideas related to it. I have heard many parents share that it is not present for them to be able to sign. While this can be the case, it is sometimes not visible available due to the timeline. When permission slips are posted, they are always put up with a deadline. When this deadline closes, the program leaves the permission slip there for a day or two before it disappears. I ask that parents pay particular attention to this deadline and try to complete it prior to that time. If you miss that deadline and the permission slip is not available, you will need to contact our school office and request that it be re-posted. Our deadlines are usually set with a purpose in mind, so we ask parents to be mindful of those deadlines. We appreciate your cooperation.
One other important idea that comes to mind is our school buses. While we only have 3 buses that line up daily out front of our school, this is often a busy zone of our school yard. I have witnessed a few times when parents and students have cut through between buses to cross to the other side of the street to their vehicle. This should not actually happen, as it violates school bus safety regulations. It can be dangerous for a variety of reasons, including when vehicles are passing by on the other side of those buses. I see this as an opportunity to learn. What should actually happen is that those who need to get to the other side of the buses should be going to either the very front of the buses or to the very back of the buses. These areas are considered much safer and are often easier for passers by to see them. Again, we appreciate your cooperation in these situations.
We are quickly approaching our spring conferences. At Forestburg School, we host student-led conferences in our elementary end. This is an opportunity for children to showcase for their parents some of the things they have been working on at school. The teacher is there as a guide and support to answer any questions. As always, if parents have additional questions that they would like to discuss with their child’s teacher, we encourage and welcome those conversations. Our jr./sr. High end hosts traditional parent/teacher conferences. This is an opportunity to discuss parent questions and concerns, but we are open to these conversations at any time. I encourage all parents to reach out to their child’s teachers at any time. The most efficient way to do this is to contact them by email. This might be a means to communicate with them, but it might also serve as an opportunity to have conversations over the phone or in-person. Our goal as a school is to continue to work together to provide the best possible education for all our students. This is best done by having home and school work together to provide the most effective and meaningful learning experiences possible.
As we soon head into spring break, I encourage everyone to take some time to rest and recharge themselves. This is an important time, as the last few months of the school year will pass quickly once we return. I know the warmer weather and additional daylight are always positive and uplifting. I look forward to seeing everyone following this break.

JH Girls Basketball
The 2024-2025 Junior high girls basketball season has come to an end. It was a fantastic season with a lot of learning and growing! The girls made it all the way to a playoff game for a spot at regionals. Unfortunately they came up just short but was a pretty exciting experience! I have been so incredibly honoured and proud to coach this amazing group of young women, to watch them grow their skills and game play. This group of athletes excelled in their sportsmanship and represented our school incredibly well all season! I look forward to watching these ladies grow more in the years coming!
