PowerSchool Update
Good Afternoon,
The Woburn Public Schools was informed late yesterday about a national cybersecurity breach in late December involving our student information system provider, PowerSchool. Our Director of Technology has confirmed that Woburn teachers' and students' information has, along with potentially millions of others across the country, has been impacted.
PowerSchool has stated that they do not anticipate the data being shared or made public, and confirmed that it has been deleted without further replication or dissemination. They have confirmed that a video documenting the deletion exists and are actively monitoring the dark web to ensure the data is not circulating. We do know that neither social security numbers nor financial data were part of this information breach.
This news, and the delay in which it was reported to us by PowerSchool, is extremely concerning. We attended a PowerSchool webinar today and will share more details as soon as more information is available. PowerSchool is in the process of drafting a more formal communication with specific details that will be shared with you accordingly.
Here is a link to the initial letter we received from PowerSchool.
Respectfully,
Matthew Crowley Ed.D
Superintendent
