Hi Montgomery Families,
Please take a moment to read Sycamore Community School District’s Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) Policy. Additional resources are also linked. We will review as a school community during our October PTO meeting.
In an ongoing effort to provide a safe learning environment, Sycamore is requesting parents, students, and staff to inform administration (or whoever) of any perceived incidents of harassment, intimidation, or bullying.
Per the Sycamore Board of Education policy JFCF, harassment, intimidation, and bullying are defined as any provoked and intentional written, verbal, electronic or physical act that a student has exhibited toward another particular student more than once and the behavior both:
causes mental or physical harm to the other student; and
is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive that it creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for the other student.

Sycamore will do everything possible to address any complaints of harassment, intimidation, and bullying. We encourage students, staff, parents, and community members to report this type of behavior to the district if help is needed to solve a problem.
To report an incident of harassment, intimidation, and bullying,
Go to the district’s website, www.sycamoreschools.org or on the individual school’s website under “Bullying Prevention” to find the form.
Fill the form on-line and submit it electronically.
Hard copies of this form are available in each of the schools.
Complete the hard copy of the report form and turn it into the building principal.
The building principal or designee will promptly investigate all reported incidents.
It is difficult to investigate reported incidences that are anonymously submitted. However, every effort will be made to maintain the confidentiality of the reporter. Deliberate false reporting of harassment, intimidation, and bullying is prohibited.

Socktober
It’s October, which means it is Socktober at Montgomery Elementary!
Socktober is a time where students bring in a pair of socks to donate, or money to purchase a pair of socks. Our childrens’ socks will be donated to Operation Give Back. Our adult socks will be donated to The Homeless Veterans Division of the VA.
Kindergarten, First and Second Grades will be donating childrens’ socks. Third and fourth grade will be donating adult socks.
The children can put them in the barrel that will be by the Flying Pig at the bottom of the stairs or give them to their teacher.
This is a great way for the students to learn about community service and the importance of giving to those in need.
Please have all donations in by Thursday, October 26th.

Reading Intervention
The Reading Intervention Specialists will be hosting a Curriculum Night on Wednesday October 11, 2023 at 6:00 pm in the school cafeteria.
You will be notified if your child qualifies for reading intervention services by September 30. We will be discussing the reading intervention program and what that looks like for your child. Please join us to hear the latest news and information.

FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATION
Please use this link to apply for Free and Reduced Lunch
We want to ensure that your child continues to receive the benefits of the Free & Reduced Meal program in the upcoming school year. State guidelines allow these benefits to extend into the next school year to provide ample time for new applications to be processed. However, there's a critical date approaching: October 8th.
If your child qualified for the Free & Reduced Meal program in the last school year and you haven't submitted a new application for the 23-24 school year by October 8th, they will revert to a full pay status. Any charges incurred between October 11th and the time you complete a new application will be the responsibility of the parent or guardian.
To avoid any unexpected charges and ensure your child continues to receive these essential benefits, please submit your application as soon as possible.

If you are part of the Montgomery Elementary family, we encourage you to join us in making our school a great place for kids. PTO membership offers you many opportunities to learn about what is going on at the school, to be involved and make some friends along the way. PTO members can vote on the PTO budget items and expenditures and receive access to our directory via the DirectorySpot app (there is NO membership fee for the 2023-2024 school year!) Joining the PTO does not obligate you to volunteer; it's just a great way to show your support of Montgomery Elementary!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We still need volunteers for a few positions and as always, to help make our events a success. If you are interested or need more information please contact me at mtpto@sycamoreschools.org. Positions that we'd like to fill as soon as possible include:
· HASSLE FREE GIVING CHAIR – Organizes hassle-free opportunities such as restaurant nights, Pipkins receipt turn-ins and Kroger Rewards.
· LUNCHROOM COORDINATOR - Creates and maintains a Sign Up Genius for lunchroom volunteers throughout the school year
· WALKING PROGRAM COORDINATOR - Creates Sign Up Genius and coordinates prizes for students that participate in the recess walking program

UPCOMING EVENTS
There are lots of fun things coming up. Please be sure to mark your calendars!!
· FALL BOOK FAIR – This wonderful event will be October 2-6. Please keep an eye out for volunteer opportunities!
· GRANDFRIENDS DAY – Our wonderful teachers are working hard to put on a wonderful event on October 6. More details coming soon.
· SKATING PARTY – Our first skating party will be on October 27 at Castle Skateland, mark your calendars!
· FALL PARADE – Come see our students strut their stuff in their trick-or-treat costumes…and our teachers usually have some epic themed costumes as well! More details will be coming via email, but this even will take place on the afternoon of Halloween, October 31.
· PTO MEETING - Our next general meeting will be on Thursday, November 9 @ 6:00pm. District Superintendent, Mr. Chad Lewis will be there to answer any questions you may have!! There will be pizza and childcare provided for those who need it. We will also be discussing our updated Bylaws, which will be posted online by October 1.
