Howdy from Mr. Bouldin - April 26, 2024
Grizzly Families
Hello Newport High Families,
Great Grizzly Auction this weekend!!! Please come support our students through this amazing fundraising campaign. Our Grizzlies benefit so much from our Maws & Paws Booster Club.
We are also almost to the end of April and our students and staff are gearing up for the end of the year activities. There is a lot going on! We have a ton of academics still to go over the next 6-7 weeks. Our seniors are working to finish strong. Senior parents, please be checking in on your seniors. There is a lot of support needed to help them get to graduation on June 7th. We appreciate all you do. Parents of our freshmen, sophomores and juniors, please continue checking on your students assignments and grades as we get closer to the end of the year. Check in with their teachers if you have any questions.
If you ever have questions, please feel free to reach out.

Front Door Buzz In Systems
All school buildings have initiated the buzz-in system for our front doors. This added layer of security for all of our buildings is great to have. Thank you all for the patience you have had as we work through the initial days of having this system in place.
To gain access to a school office, press the button on the camera keypad located outside of each school’s main office doors.
When the button is pushed, a school secretary will greet you and unlock the doors for you to access the office at that time.
Good News
Guest Speaker
Our NHS National Honor Society brought in more great guest speakers this week for our students. This week our student got to hear from Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels and his daughter Sarah and Todd Krogh. They spoke about Fentanyl Awareness to our students. This opportunity was a part of our National Honor Society's continued #newportknows campaign to give all of our students information that will help their lives. Here is a KHQ story about the Sheriff and Sarah to give you an idea of what our students heard about.

InvestED
At InvestED, we are dedicated to ensuring that every student has access to the resources needed to succeed. The Strengthening our Roots & Broadening our Reach campaign aims to strengthen our programs so we can do even more to support students in need.
The idea of InvestED was initially planted 60 years ago by a small act of kindness by Saul and Dayee G. Haas. Since then we have grown into an organization that impacts an average of 1 in 10 middle and high school students in our state.
Over the years, our roots have grown stronger, and we now support 700 schools throughout the state. The positive impact of InvestED is immeasurable, and we are proud to continue Saul and Dayee's legacy of kindness and empowerment, impacting one student at a time.
As a member of our community, you are critical to the Strengthening our Roots & Broadening our Reach campaign. With your support we can reach more students and bridge the gap between what families can afford, what schools can support, and what students urgently need. Please consider a donation, big or small. Click Here to donate.
Artist Alley

WA Grant gives more money to more people
Washington College Grant (WA Grant) gives more money to more people for more kinds of education and training beyond high school. WA Grant is not reserved for valedictorians or athletes—it is available to all eligible Washington residents, including undocumented students. If you meet the program and income requirements, you have money waiting for you.
WA Grant can help you access many types of education and training:
WA Grant amounts vary based on income, family size, and program cost. An eligible student from a family of four with income of $73,000 or less per year can get a full award. What does that mean? For example, public college tuition would likely be free for a family with three children and a single parent making $34 per hour. For middle-income families, grant amounts are lower. But even someone from a family of four making up to $112,500 per year can get some money to help pay for college or training.
Students and families can use the financial aid calculator to estimate their potential WA Grant award, but the only way to know for sure whether you qualify is to apply for financial aid. Applications for the 2024-25 academic year are now open.
WA Grant helps make college or job training affordable. Learn more at WAgrant.org.
Opportunities for Students

The winning poster will be displayed for one year at all the aquatic invasive species check stations and in an educational trailer that travels statewide to schools, libraries, and events, educating people about invasive species that threaten Washington’s natural resources, economy, recreation, and ecology.
