Holiday Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
As we enter this festive season, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all who attended parent-teacher conferences. Your partnership is invaluable in supporting student success, and we are grateful for your ongoing involvement.
With colder weather here, please remember to send your child to school dressed for the season. Jackets are essential for outdoor play, and if your family is in need of one, please don’t hesitate to reach out—our office has jackets available to ensure every student stays warm.
From all of us here at Hillside, we wish you a holiday season filled with joy, love, and special moments with those you hold dear.
Warm regards,
Jen Durham
Principal

This is just a friendly reminder that students need to come to school properly dressed for the weather. Students should wear a jacket, closed toe shoes and consider bringing a a hat and gloves when very cold. We go outside to play even when it is cold.

School Board Recognition at HES!
The following students and staff were recognized at a recent assembly for their outstanding work by our EPSD9 School Board
Words from Hillside Elementary:
Hadley Horn
Hadley always comes to school with a positive attitude and gives 110% on her work. She is willing to help with anything, from cleaning desks for students to filing papers that need to be sent home. Hadley is friends with everyone and makes an effort to ensure others feel welcome. She pushes herself to complete her MyPath assignments each week. She is often one of the first to settle down at any signal I use and models positive behaviors for her peers.
Lyla Yazzolino
Lyla, a fifth grader, exemplifies leadership. She stays on task, consistently follows the 3B's (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready), helps others, including adults, and often sacrifices her free time to assist with tasks. With her kind heart, she brings sunshine to everyone's day. Last year, she made significant strides in her reading skills, discovering and following through on book series she loved. Additionally, she is a creative writer and enjoys art.

She builds meaningful relationships with both students and staff, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Her unwavering commitment to meeting each student's unique needs and delivering consistent, high-quality instruction showcases her deep passion for education and her heartfelt dedication to nurturing lifelong learners. Sheila is truly a deserving candidate for recognition by the School Board.

PurposeFull People character traits for our students of the month
December 2024
Our Husky scholars are doing so well practicing respect, responsibility, and gratitude! During the month of December, our character trait is empathy. We will focus on learning how to describe how we feel, understanding what others are feeling, and listening to others. We would encourage our families to practice this trait at home too!
Empathy: understanding and connecting to other people’s feelings.
Think About It
Here are some questions to ask your child at home or talk about as a family:
K-2 How do you know what you are feeling? How can you tell how someone else is feeling? How do you show empathy to your friends when they are sad?
3-5 What is a conflict you have had with someone? How could you respond to that situation with empathy? What is the difference between sympathy and empathy?
