Founders Weekly
October 1st to 5th
Shout out!
So many great things happened this week! I want to recognize a few:
- Mr. Soares for leading a whole school teambuilding activity!
- Mr. Glenn for supporting our kids under the radar!
- Ms. Mann for giving us a helpful PD on trauma and the brain!
Mold Remediation-Important!!
- 7th Grade can gather in the Cafeteria as usual
- Chef Park can teach in the Cafeteria-No kitchen use.
- Students may be served in the Cafeteria (we think) but may not eat there.
- Lunch will be eaten in classrooms
I do not have a timeline as to how long this will take. I would like to brainstorm how we can add breaks back in for staff. Please see me if you have an idea.
Thank you for your understanding!
Technology Use
I spent a lot of time this week mediating bullying happening on "Airtime." I had a parent complaint that her daughter was on Instagram in our school in spite of the fact she doesn't allow her daughter to have an account. We also had a student videoing in a classroom that came to me through a student complaint.
Phones are simply a non-negotiable. It is a district policy. It is dangerous. It is a distraction. Please send the message to your students that phone use of any kind will be wriiten up as tech violations and appropriate consequences given. If you are struggling with this, I will help you.
Office Traffic
- If a child needs to see me, Ms. Menard, or Ms. Mann please call ahead to see if we are available. If we are not we will call when we are free.
- Please do not give students passes to the office during Study Block. The amount of traffic for locker, bathroom and drinks from the cafeteria is already alot to manage.
- Students who need an emergency break to keep from escalating or becoming dangerous are still free to go without the call ahead-But please call to let us know they're coming
- No restrictions on bathroom use are necessary
Thank you for your help!
Discipline Referrals
I want to remind you to be filling out discipline referrals. Especially when:
- Student has chronic behavior issues
- Students or teacher have been harmed in some way
- Student had been removed from your room for the behavior
- Behavior has violated a school-wide expectation
I review them with parents and students. We enter them in SWIS to track data.
Restorative Practices
RP requires a positive community and proactive culture building to be effective so there is actually a community to restore someone to. RP focuses on inclusion, rather than exclusion. Conferencing and circles are key factors of RP and over time they prove to be more effective in behavior change than traditional detentions and suspensions.

Bell Times
Scheduled Faculty Meeting
"Start with Hello"
“Start with Hello” Spirit Week was a huge success! There were a lot of moving parts and we definitely pushed people out of their comfort zones but we did it! This was a great example of adults supporting student leadership. Since the start of school it has become so clear that we need to focus on community building. Middle school is a tough age with a lot of social emotional needs. In our small community we have all the trauma, drama and needs of my 850 student middle school. The difference is, we have the resources and the will to make a difference! This week was just the beginning.
