The James Madison FFA BBQ teams competed this weekend in the Texas High School BBQ Association State Championships held in Burnet, TX. 91 teams were competing from all across Texas and the results were as amazing as their ability to cook BBQ!

Congratulations to the pitmasters on each team:

• Team Meat Militia - 5th Place (Nationals Qualified)
• Team Smokin' Jalapenos - 7th Place (Nationals Qualified)
• Team Cowgrills - 8th Place (Nationals Qualified)
• Team 4 Chicks and a Hog - 11th Place (Nationals Qualified)
• Team Smokey and the Bandits - 18th Place (Nationals Qualified)
  
  

All 5 teams qualified for the National HS BBQ Association National Championships that will take place in Branson, Missouri, the week of June 10th - 14th, 2024.

The next monthly meeting of the FFA Booster Club will be Tuesday, May 7th at 6:30pm in the AMP Commons. All parents/guardians of AMP students are encouraged to attend as the major items of business will be the election of the 2024-2025 Booster Club Executive Board and the distribution of the 2023 AMP Livestock Expo Points Payout checks.

The Saddle Light Center (located at Retama Park) is looking for summer volunteers for their Equine Therapy sessions. Duties include: moving horses to and from paddocks, cleaning stalls and barn areas, grooming and feeding horses, and assisting as a side walker or horse handler during therapy sessions.

No previous experience with horses is required as all necessary training is provided. The next volunteer training date is Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM. See the attached flier for more details.

Parents / guardians can nominate their 2024 graduating Texas FFA senior. One lucky honoree will be awarded a $1000 scholarship, and two honorees will be entered to win a pair of Justin Boots!

The following measures are in place to provide safety to the JMHS campus and AMP Complex:

• NEISD has a closed campus policy. Students cannot leave campus during school hours, including lunchtime, without authorization from a parent/guardian, school administration, and obtaining a pass from the attendance office.
• Parents/guardians needing to make deliveries to AMP students during school hours must bring the items (school supplies, clothing, payments, food, etc.) into the AMP Administration office for delivery to students. We will not be allowing students to go into the parking lot to pick up deliveries.

The 2nd Semester Exam Exemption Request Window for students will open at 7:00AM on Monday, May 13th, and close at 4:30PM on Wednesday, May 16th. For instructions and FAQs about the exam exemption request process, please refer to the attachments below.

Seniors will receive ONE FREE Final Transcript to be sent to one college/university of their choice. Please follow the instructions found in the attached Senior Final Transcript Instruction Sheet to ensure proper submission. Students, parents,, or guardians can complete the online request from May 6, 2024 - June 6, 2024 (4:00PM CST). All requests submitted before will be DENIED and any requested after the designated window will pay the $5.00 fee per transcript.

Surita Wyatt Scholarship

Deadline: May 10, 2024

Purpose

The purpose of this scholarship fund is to reward North East ISD students for their success in Career and Technical Education programs and to encourage students to further their education.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Surita Wyatt Scholarship, one must be a North East Independent School District high school senior who has completed or is participating in one or more Career and Technical Education courses. There are two types of scholarship awards available. Four scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded to four seniors to further their education upon graduation from high school. In addition, one student will be awarded a $1000 scholarship and named the overall senior CTE student for NEISD.

This year's AMP Awards Gala will be held on Thursday, May 16th at 6:30pm in the AMP Arena.

The annual gala is our opportunity to celebrate the many accomplishments that happened over this school year in the AMP and James Madison FFA. To name just a few, students will be recognized for their participation in Leadership Development Events, Career Development Events, Speaking Development Events, and Agriscience Fair.

We will also be recognizing our Star Greenhand FFA, Chapter FFA, and Lone Star FFA Degree members along with announcing the winners of our Proficiency and Supervised Agriculture Experience awards.

And money... The James Madison FFA Booster Club will be presenting scholarships to deserving graduating Seniors.
