SSIS + SEL Screener
The Social Skills Improvement System Brief + Mental Health Scales (SSIS SEL screener) is a short screener that is completed by a student (grades 3-12), or their teacher (grades EC-2) or parents. The screener takes between 5 and 8 minutes to complete. The focus of the scales is a student’s social emotional learning (SEL) (including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making) and, for students in grades K-12. emotional behavioral concern (internalizing, externalizing, and stress). The purpose of this online screener is to identify areas of strength and emotional behavioral concerns in students. This will help inform teachers and school leaders in planning Social Emotional Learning (SEL) instructional and programmatic support for students.

PE Corner Happenings
Kid's Heart Challenge and Get Fit!
March is looking to be a busy month for PE! We will be finishing up our badminton unit this week, followed by cardio and jump roping activities to wrap up the final weeks before spring break!
Students will be sent home with information regarding the Kid’s Heart Program through the American Heart Association. This is an optional fundraiser, but our PE department can earn an equipment gift certificate by half of our students simply creating an account (which does not require fundraising). On the account, students can learn important skills such as hands-only CPR and other valuable information. If you choose, you can create an account by clicking the link HERE.

World Down Syndrome Day
Northfield Public Schools is proud to participate and promote World Down Syndrome Day! On Friday, March 21st, students and family members are invited to join us by ‘rockin’ your wacky socks’ to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome, support inclusion and encourage acts of kindness. People with Down syndrome are born with a 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome (3/21). This is the reason for celebrating World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st, with the idea that it will continue every day after! This video (attached) was created by Kristin Yahnke, a Northfield Mom and Community Member. There are MANY local celebrities represented in the video … even some past and present BW Bears! Please take 5 minutes to watch the video and join us Friday, March 21st for Rock your Socks Day! All students are invited to wear socks with fun patterns, mismatched socks or creative designs!
