Help Us Keep Our Students Safe
Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. As we navigate through another academic year, I wanted to take a moment to highlight a crucial aspect of our children's safety and well-being: the materials they encounter at school.
It's imperative for the school and for our parents to reinforce to our children the importance of caution when it comes to anything given to them at school. While the majority of materials provided by schools are safe and beneficial for learning, there may be instances where items could pose risks if used incorrectly or without supervision.
Therefore, I urge you to have an open conversation with your children about the significance of not trying anything that is given to them at school without your knowledge or permission. This includes but is not limited to:
Unknown Substances: Remind them never to ingest or experiment with anything they're unsure of. This applies to food, drinks, or any other substances provided by peers or even staff members.
Unfamiliar Objects: Advise them to refrain from using any tools, equipment, or devices they're unfamiliar with without proper instruction or supervision.
Questionable Activities: Encourage them to speak up if they're ever asked to participate in activities that make them uncomfortable or seem risky.
By instilling these principles, we empower our children to make informed decisions and prioritize their safety in any learning environment. Additionally, please emphasize the importance of notifying a teacher, school administrator, or you as parents immediately if they encounter any questionable materials or situations at school.
As partners in our children's education and well-being, let's continue to foster open communication and provide guidance to ensure their safety both inside and outside the classroom.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns or questions.
Warm regards,
The MMS Staff

Why is attendance a must?
Every school day counts in a child's academic life...
A missed school day is a lost opportunity for students to learn. In this era of increased accountability for states, districts, and schools, the connection between student attendance and learning is being studied more than ever before. As a result, education agencies are asked with increasing frequency to report attendance data in a standard manner to allow comparisons across organizations and jurisdictions.
The primary rationale for high-quality attendance data is the relationship between student attendance and student achievement.
Girls Fall Ball has begun! We’d love for you to join! We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00. Wear tennis shoes and clothes to practice in. If you can bring a water bottle. We are playing to have fun and get better at basketball. Please have a ride to drop you off at the front doors by 4:30 and a pick up at 6:00. Looking forward to seeing you there!
MMS Should Know Where They Are At!
All students should check their grades. Be sure you have completed all of your work and be sure you don’t have any missing assignments. Talk to your teachers about how you can improve your grades and make the 1st trimester honor roll.

KPS Student Code of Conduct
District Beliefs, Expectations & Responsibilities
The Kalamazoo Public School District believes that all students can learn when provided with appropriate instruction and an environment that is safe and orderly. To create such an educational setting requires a comprehensive program of instruction, written and consistently enforced standards of discipline, and the cooperative efforts of students, parents/guardians, school staff and the community. In order to develop and maintain a positive educational setting, discipline standards should balance the need for consistency and uniformity with the need for discretionary authority, and should offer alternatives. The Kalamazoo Public Schools’ Student Code of Conduct is based on the following beliefs:
1. Discipline is a natural element of educational and personal development.
2. Positive behaviors are encouraged through appropriate reinforcement and/or corrective measures.
3. The rights and welfare of the individual as well as the entire school population will be protected. 4. The Student Code of Conduct should lead to a clear understanding of behavioral expectations and consequences for unacceptable behavior.
5. The school will strive to achieve a balance between the rights of students and the need for order and safety for the entire school population.
