Admirals in Action
Our first 7/8 Robotics IB unit is to design an Olympic Venue! Students had to research the sport they were building a venue for as well as the hosting country and add artistic elements to it. This is the beginning stages of the build process!
Robotics final Olympic venue projects...so creative!
5th grade citizens getting involved in their community! In our “How We Organize Ourselves” IB unit we are learning about citizenship and how it connects to our communities. Fifth grade took on the perspective of an animal at the Hillsborough Pet Resource Center. Students researched about their chosen pet and wrote a piece advocating for its adoption!
PYP ACCESS students visited the STEM lab this week. They are able to identify mixtures and if the mixture is able to dissolve - keep up the great work!
Mrs. Hilliker and Mrs. Gangis’ grade 3 students have been using their ATL skills (Thinking, Communication, and Self-Management Skills) to create an Infographic that goes along with their “Who We Are” IB unit!
Students used their Social Skills in PE to complete some partner jump rope challenges!
Ms. Cawood’s class explored all 5 senses by making homemade air popped popcorn!!
Crouch/Smart third graders used their inquiry skills to research and become more knowledgeable about their cultures for the IB unit of study “Who We Are”
Mrs. Lankford’s Pre-K Admirals combined their sense of touch and their “communication” skills to describe what object was hidden inside each sock! They also enjoyed identifying objects by texture in this week’s sensory bin!
Mrs. Jinks and Mrs. Gratt's kindergarten classes shared "all about me bags" and discussed our similar interests and shared things about ourselves! We have such knowledgeable communicators!!
We are classifying and sorting by color, size, shape, attributes, and texture in Ms. Doyle's first grade class!
Students in Ms. Santoro’s class practiced adding positive and negative integers using a model. They also have been learning about the scientific method and conducted an experiment about chemical changes!
Patrol Fun Day!! 3rd annual Safety Patrol Trouble tournament.
This week our PYP artists were able to explore different art centers in one or both art studios. These centers are meant to allow students to choose their own artistic path. We love the excitement that comes from this type of learning and cannot wait to see what they create!
Next week the kids will be learning and reviewing the underhand roll while doing bowling lead-up games and skills activities. Also, on Thursday, the Tampa Bay Bucs will be here to run the 3rd-5th graders through a flag-football training during their specials times on that day. See details below of how this ties into our Physical Education standards.
At the Bucs flag football camp for grades 3-5, they are working on the following standards with your students and it is not full-on flag football. It is more of catching and throwing. Please note that we do not play flag football in elementary, but we do work on the skills for catching and throwing.
Standards connection for the elementary program (for grades 3-5):
- 3rd Grade
- PE.3.M.1.7: Move in different directions to catch objects of different sizes and weight thrown by a stationary partner.
- PE.4.M.1.8: Throw balls of various sizes and weights to a stationary partner using a correct overhand motion.
- 4th Grade

Reminders for a Safe Arrival & Dismissal
Arrivals:
PYP (Primary Years Program) students arriving between 7:40-7:55am should report to the cafeteria to allow for teacher contracted planning time. The Student Services Team will be supervising students as they eat and assisting them as they move into classrooms. Arrivals after 7:55am can go to the cafeteria for breakfast OR go directly to class. MYP students can get breakfast from the carts located in the courtyard and will remain there until the 8:00am bell rings to enter the building.
Students are only to be dropped off in the lane closest to York's office sidewalk. For our students' safety, PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW STUDENTS TO EXIT CAR FROM THE 2nd LANE or from parking spots in front of the school as those locations require them to cross moving traffic in lane 1.
Dismissal:
It is important for cars to stay in their designated lane and not switch as it disrupts the dismissal process. Students are called to designated cones based on the order of names taken. Please be sure to enter our line by 3:15pm while our staff is still out taking names. If you arrive after 3:15pm, please be prepared to park and proceed to the office with your driver's license.
