Band Vision, Mission, and Goal Statement
Cedar Shoals Band Vision
The vision of the Cedar Shoals High School Band Program is to create successful, productive members of the school community through the imparting of musical knowledge, the development of musical skills, and the fostering of strong relationships.
Cedar Shoals Band Mission
The mission of the Cedar Shoals High School Band Program is to develop students that are self-disciplined, self-motivated, strong musicians, and well-rounded individuals while also providing a musical education to all students, staff, and the community.
Cedar Shoals Band Goal Statement
The Cedar Shoals High School Band Program strives to teach our students conceptually, allowing them to become independent musicians. This approach to teaching allows for deeper and broader thinking, on the part of students, and helps to foster a lifelong desire to learn.
Band Objectives
The Cedar Shoals High School Band Program forms an integral part of school life. It is one of the largest and most active voluntary student organizations on campus. Its members are from a variety of backgrounds and come together to create an active, cosmopolitan group. The primary objectives of the band program are:
A. Educational - To provide a well rounded musical education and prepare students for music experiences and activities beyond high school.
B. Cultural - To foster the continued growth of the arts, especially music, in our society through the study and performance of quality music.
C. Service - To enhance certain school and community events by adding color and atmosphere.
D. Citizenship - To develop a student’s ability to function in a group, interact in a positive manner with others, and develop the ability to function as a responsible member of the community.
E. Recreational - To provide all students with the opportunity for good use of leisure time, and an emotional outlet with meaningful social experiences.
Course Goals
To develop a greater appreciation for music*
To develop INDIVIDUAL knowledge and performance growth specific to each instrument, with special attention to improving tone quality, articulation, intonation, phrasing, and other techniques*
To develop ENSEMBLE performance awareness of musical ideas such as balance, blend, intonation, melody, and harmony
To develop INDIVIDUAL knowledge of music theory*
To develop discipline, responsibility, and teamwork concepts that will help to enrich our lives
*These will be the goals that we focus on the most during our virtual learning time.

- 20% of the course average
- Summative assessments include music theory tests, performance assessments, and pathway final assignments
- 20% of the class average (subject to change)*
*To remain consistent with 1st semester, the grading weights will remain the same. Given the state’s decision to reduce the weight of the EOCs to .01%, the 20% Final/EOC category will remain blank. Final grades will be calculated based on the formative and summative categories.
